Boynton Beach (Fla.) Somerset Canyons 2025 four-star wide receiver Waden Charles is continuing to climb the radar of powerhouse programs, including Miami.
Charles, the No. 254 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 40 receiver, has held a Miami offer for several months, and the Hurricanes’ staff had been pushing for Charles to attend one of Miami’s summer camps to watch the four-star prospect work out and go through drills live. So when the Hurricanes‘ June 4 camp rolled around, Charles was excited to make his third trip of the year to Coral Gables.
“Miami’s showing a lot of love,” Charles said after the camp. “I appreciate the love they have to show. I appreciate the love from (receivers) coach Kevin Beard and the people on staff. They try to keep in contact with me, they talk to me like two times a week, and I’ll talk to coach Beard through my (high school) coach and stuff like that.”
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound receiver has already picked up offers from the Canes, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Florida State and others but continues to hold high interest in Miami. He expects communication to significantly increase this September when he’ll officially be an upperclassman and can be contacted directly by Miami’s coaching staff.
Georgia, Ohio State, Auburn, Illinois and NC State were among the Power Five programs to visit Somerset Canyons this spring and check up on Charles. Miami, Georgia, Texas A&M, Auburn and Florida State are all standing out early, Charles said.
The Hurricanes are the early leader for Charles with an estimated 27.7% chance according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Georgia is a close second at 24.3%, and Florida comes in third at 10.9%. Auburn and Florida State are each estimated to have a 9.1% chance.
“I like that (these schools) have a lot of interest in me and want me to come play right now,” Charles said. “Like, they’re ready for me to come and play once it’s time for me to commit. They trust what I do as a player.”
Charles plans to visit multiple other camps this summer ranging from Florida Atlantic to Florida State. He does not have plans to take any strictly unofficial visits, although he did not rule out dropping by USC when he travels to California for the Elite 11 finals this summer.
CaneSport’s Take
Charles was a name we first mentioned back in February that Miami was keeping its eyes on, and the Hurricanes’ interest has only increased over the past few months. Miami is ensuring it gets on Charles’ radar early and stays there going into his junior year when his recruitment is all but guaranteed to intensify.
