4-star WR talks Alabama A-Day visit, message from Ryan Williams

4-star WR talks Alabama A-Day visit, message from Ryan Williams

Prior to the end of the February dead period, South Florida-based wideout Naeshaun Montgomery had never visited Alabama.

Since the start of the spring, however, Montgomery has made it a point to visit Tuscaloosa following an offer in late January. The four-star pass catcher was in town for the program’s third spring practice on March 8. Last weekend, he returned to Tuscaloosa once again for their annual A-Day Game.

Issues with his flight schedule caused Montgomery’s visit to be shortened, but it was a solid return visit nonetheless.

“It was definitely a great experience just seeing how the offense runs in person,” Montgomery told BamaOnLine. “It was a great experience just seeing how they’re getting it back to how Alabama used to be. Coach Shep definitely knows how to use his receivers. Moving them all around, not just keeping them inside or outside. Just them spreading the ball around.”

Montgomery got some insight into Alabama’s game plan ahead of scrimmage during a conversation with JaMarcus Shephard.

“I definitely had a great time,” Montgomery said. “Before the scrimmage, I was just talking with Coach Shep. He said his plan for receivers is to get everybody the ball and spread the ball around, so I definitely liked that.”

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect was laser-focused on the wide receiver group, especially the younger players like Caleb Odom and Cole Adams being involved. He also dished out his assessment on what he saw from Alabama’s signal callers.

Jalen Milroe and Ty [Simpson] really did a great job spreading the ball around,” Montgomery said. “Even if the play broke down, they kept their eyes down the field and made a play.”

Before Bama extended him an offer earlier this year, Montgomery had some background information on Shephard from his trainer at Top Shelf, Coach Steph.

Montgomery speaks weekly with Shephard, and the two built upon that connection last weekend.

“It really started from the day he offered me. I just love how he keeps it 100 with you,” Montgomery said of his relationship with Shephard. “He doesn’t beat around the bush; he just keeps it real with you.

“He can definitely develop receivers. Gives freshmen an opportunity to play and really just impact the game.”

On top of speaking with Shephard again, Montgomery caught up with a fellow peer who was previously in the Class of 2025 with him: Ryan Williams.

“He was really saying how he wants for me to be a part of Alabama and really just help him take over and bring back Bama,” Montgomery said of Williams’ message. “I think it would be great. Just two great players bringing back Alabama and putting on.”

Montgomery currently has official visits planned to Florida and Penn State this summer. An official to Alabama is under consideration, with that one likely to take place from June 21-23 if it is scheduled.

His interest in the Crimson Tide continues to be high following a return visit to The Capstone.

“They’re definitely high on my list,” Montgomery said. “Really, it’s the way they give freshmen an opportunity to play. When I was talking with Coach Shep, he said he doesn’t mind playing freshmen. It’s all up to them and how they perform.

“Also, the way they stay on top of their guys. They coach them hard, they’re on top of them, and get them ready for the next level.”

Montgomery added that the expectation is Alabama will come down to Miami Central High School to see him in the spring evaluation period. Bama also recently offered his teammate, 2025 defensive lineman Floyd Boucard.
