4-star WR says official visit with Florida Gators is likely

Kam Mikell, a 4-star receiver target from Statesboro (Ga.), said Thursday he’s likely to officially visit the Florida Gators later this year.

“I’m trying to do one (there),” Mikell told Gators Online.

Florida currently has 22 commitments and the No. 3 recruiting class in the country. With spots filling up, the Gators hope to use them only with what the staff views as elite prospects.

Mikell seems to fit into that category. The 6-foot, 180-pound standout is the No. 53 recruit in the country for On3. On3 rated him as a corner and many schools are recruiting Mikell for defense.

But Gators Online can confirm Florida projects Mikell at receiver.

Kam Mikell could have a busy fall

Mikell unofficially visited the Gators this summer. He made officials to Georgia, Georgia Tech and South Carolina earlier this year. And just last week, he told On3 that Colorado, Kentucky and Tennessee will get officials this fall.

Georgia is the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favorite.

When might Mikell officially visit the Gators? That’s still being worked out.

Florida doesn’t typically like in-season official visits and would prefer Mikell do one in December. But he said Thursday, “We’ve been trying to figure that out but I was saying that I don’t want to do any visits after the season.”

In any event, Mikell seems to be fairly high on Florida.

When asked what he likes most about the Gators, he replied, “Nice facility, sponsored by Jordan and cool coaches. Crazy fan base.”
