4-star WR Naeshaun Montgomery talks growing relationship with Miami Hurricanes: “They stand really high”

4-star WR Naeshaun Montgomery talks growing relationship with Miami Hurricanes: “They stand really high”

Following the conclusion of the 2023 7-on-7 circuit, it may be hard to find a prospect whose stock rose the most than West Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinal Newman four-star wide receiver Naeshaun Montgomery. The elite pass catcher has some of the top programs in the nation now chasing after his services, including the Miami Hurricanes, who are looking to establish themselves as a serious contender for 2025 prospect early on.

“My relationship with them is getting stronger and stronger,” Montgomery told CaneSport. “Every time I go there, they show a lot of love and pull me aside and chat with me.”

With the two sides’ relationship continuing to grow, Montgomery made his way down to Coral Gables for the Legends Camp recently, where he had the chance to work with Miami wide receivers coach Kevin Beard.

“It went great, and I had some one-on-one time with coach Kevin Beard,” Montgomery said. “He just breaks the whole game down. Everything from the routes to the releases.”

Along with Beard, the 6-foot-3, 175-pounder spoke with Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal and spoke about his overall experience at the camp last week.

“I also talked with coach Mario Cristobal, and it went well,” Montgomery said. “He wants me to come to the barbecue in July and take another visit after that.”

“It was definitely a blessing being around and working with those legends because seeing what they did and them giving me knowledge, I plan on adding that to my game.”

While Miami was one of the first Power Five programs to offer the No. 73 overall prospect and No. 13 wide receiver in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, other major programs have taken notice of his immense talent after his breakout spring playing with the Raw Miami 7-on-7 program.

“The thing that has helped me the most was the 7-on-7,” Montgomery said. “I had a great time playing with the best players and surrounding myself with good coaches.”

Thus far, Montgomery says programs such as Ohio State, LSU, USC, and Miami are sticking out to him the most.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Hurricanes are the current leader to land Montgomery with a 29.9% probability.

“They stand really high,” Montgomery said. “Every time I go down to Miami, it’s just a bunch of energy and laughs.”

CaneSport’s take

Miami has been a school that aggressively pursued Montgomery early in his process, which appears to be paying off now that other programs have joined the equation and they remain high on his list. It doesn’t seem like the Rhode Island native is in any rush in his recruitment process, but he says communication will be key with him and one of the most important factors when making his decision. At the moment, Miami seems to be in a great spot for Montgomery, and a great showing on the field during the 2023 season should help their case even more.
