4-star TE Caleb Odom goes inside his top seven schools

Carrollton (Ga.) four-star tight end Caleb Odom is entering the home stretch in his recruitment. The No. 37 overall prospect in the On3 rankings has announced his top seven schools.

Odom is down to Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Ole Miss, Miami, Florida and Penn State. Odom is set to visit Miami this weekend. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Ole Miss as Odom’s leader at the moment.

The Rebels have a 79.4 percent chance of landing the four-star tight end according to RPM. Florida is a new program to emerge in this latest cutdown. The Gators did not make Odom’s top 12 announced last month.

Caleb Odom breaks down his seven contenders

Alabama: “It’s Alabama. I’d get the chance to be coached by some of the greatest coaches in the world. The history that they have is big. They’ve put out players into the NFL. They send five at least every year. Right now, they have no 2024 tight end committed. That’s a big factor in my recruitment is an opportunity to play early. That’s why Alabama is in there still. Who wouldn’t want to be coached by one of the greatest coaching staffs in the world?”

Georgia: “They know how to utilize their tight ends, they’ve done it for the last two or three years and put up numbers. They have Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington who is headed to the league. They’re the new dynasty right now. Winning two national championships in a row is going to be very hard not to go to.”

Ole Miss: “They’re one of the few schools that see me as a wide receiver. Their history with wide receivers is very good. DK Metcalf, Elijah Moore, AJ Brown and guys like that have been successful. I see myself being a guy that can fit into that category. Oxford is one of the greatest college towns. That also stood out to me.”

Florida: “The re-emerged in my top seven. They were not in my top 12 and I got a chance to keep speaking with the new tight end coach Russ Callaway. He has pulled me back toward Florida. He came to a practice and he really didn’t know that I was playing wide receiver. Him and coach (Billy) Napier talked and now they want me as a wide receiver too. That really piqued my interest in them. It’s Gainesville and they have a 2024 quarterback committed. They have a great class going right now.”

Non-SEC programs making a splash with

Colorado: “Colorado is in there because of Prime (Deion Sanders). It’s a great team and a great coaching staff, but you want to see what coach Prime is doing up there. It’d be great to get down there for a visit and see what the culture is like and it’s very intriguing. That’s a very special team and I want to get down for a visit.”

Penn State: “They’re considered one of the best tight-end universities in the country. You get a chance to go out in one of the biggest stadiums in the country. I have a great relationship with coach (Ty) Howle and coach (James) Franklin.

Miami: “Miami is a great program. I have great relationships with the tight end coach Stephen Field and head coach Mario Cristobal. The last time I went down there, it was nothing but love. They’ve also put out some great tight ends like Greg Olson and Jeremy Shockey. That really opened my eyes to them.”
