4-star SMU commit Rickey Stewart feels at home in Dallas

2025 Tyler (Tex.) Chapel Hill running back Rickey Stewart went off in his team’s win Friday night against Nacogdoches (Tex.) The four-star prospect carried 14 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
“When it started, I just gave him a stiff arm and a spin move and I saw nothing but green and then, touchdown. I took off,” Stewart said of his 75-yard touchdown run. “I worked on my vision and pushing through when I’m tired this offseason.”
Stewart is joined in the backfield by fellow SMU commit and quarterback Demetrius Brisbon. The pair forms one of the top backfields in the country.
“It’s special,” Stewart said. “With me and him back there, we can’t be stopped. I got his back, he’s got mine.”
SMU gives Stewart a home feeling
One of the top prospects in America, the 5-11, 180-pound playmaker has been on the road a little bit as well. The Mustangs are holding firm with his commitment.
“Been visiting a lot of colleges lately, but right now I’m locked in with SMU,” he said. “I went to TCU last Sunday, I’ll see Baylor soon. I went to their (SMU) first game against Louisiana Tech, hot though.”
When it comes to his commitment to the Mustangs, Stewart said the family feel around the program is a key piece. Running backs coach Khenon Hall was in attendance for his game and has built a strong bond.
“It’s the way they treat each other like family, how the coaches is and it just feels like home every time I go to Dallas,” he said. “He’s good. Me and him have a good bond already. Good coach, can’t wait to play with him in the future.”
The move to the ACC has a massive impact overall and Stewart sees that.
“It’s very big, very exciting,” he said.
Texas Tech, Oregon, Ole Miss, Baylor and TCU are the programs still pursuing him. He plans to return to see SMU again in the future.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Stewart ranks as the No. 255 overall prospect and No. 22 running back in the nation.
On3 is even higher on him, ranking Stewart as the No. 142 overall prospect and No. 14 running back in the nation.
