4-Star Safety Keon Young Plans to Commit Over the Summer After Dropping Top 3 List

4-Star Safety Keon Young Plans to Commit Over the Summer After Dropping Top 3 List

Keon Young has cut his list down to three schools. Kentucky remains in the hunt.

The 6-foot, 171-pound safety from Lakeland (Auburndale, FL) told KSR+ that Kentucky, Ole Miss, and USF are the three schools showing him the most love. That’s why he decided to narrow things down.

“They’re making me a priority for their programs,” Young said.

As for Kentucky, Young is being recruited by safeties coach Frank Buffano. The two have a “great connection.”

“It’s always been a place I’d consider playing at because of the program and coaches,” Young said. “I see myself fitting in, being a ball hawk, and making plays.”

Young visited Kentucky in February and has plans to return over the summer. He will be taking an official visit on June 21.

“[I’m paying attention to] the vibes from the coaches, the team, seeing how I’ll fit into the defense, and seeing what I’ll be doing,” he said.

Targeting Summer Decision, But No Specific Date

Keon Young also included Ole Miss and USF among his top three schools. He has official visits scheduled for Ole Miss (May 31) and USF (June 14). Young broke down both schools:

Ole Miss: “[Ole Miss safeties coach] Wes Neighbors is a guy I know very well. That’s my boy. We talk a lot.”

USF: “They have been recruiting me since my sophomore year. That was my first offer. They’ve been showing love heavily ever since. I’ll always be appreciative.”

Young is taking fit into consideration when making a decision. Although he doesn’t have a specific timeline for a commitment, he said it’ll likely be over the summer.

Keon Young’s Game

Four-star safety Keon Young of Auburndale (FL) Lakeland is the nation’s No. 241 overall prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 ranks Young as the No. 299 player overall, the No. 24 safety, and the No. 39 overall player in Florida.

Young said his ball skills are his greatest strength. He wants to get stronger before he gets to the college level.

“I want to play in a 4-2-5 scheme,” Young said. “The scheme has a lot to do with my decision. It’s probably 80 percent.”
