4-star receiver Braylon Staley rearranges top 3 schools, breaks down Miami’s standing with commitment date in mind

With Clemson landing four-star receiver and top-40 prospect Bryant Wesco earlier this week, Miami four-star receiver prospect Braylon Staley had to rearrange his top three schools.

Staley is no longer considering Clemson after the Tigers became satisfied with their receiver haul this season, he told CaneSport, which has caused Tennessee to become his new No. 1, Miami to become his new No. 2 and North Carolina his new No. 3. He will take his official visit to Miami this weekend before visiting the Volunteers next week and North Carolina June 23.

He is considering committing June 29 or 30, although he is yet to firmly choose a commitment date. He said he wants to further discuss a commitment date with his father. Staley is the No. 155 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 27 receiver.

“Really, it’s just (receivers) coach (Kevin) Beard,” Staley said when asked why he’s interested in the Hurricanes. “He’s been telling me he’s a developer of the receiver position, that he’ll develop me into a better receiver than I am today, things like that. He tells me I’ll probably break records at the school.”

Tennessee and North Carolina have made similar pitches, and the Volunteers’ offensive success under head coach Josh Heupel has made a real impression on the 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect. All three programs are maintaining daily contact with Staley.

Staley feels he’s built a “funny, caring relationship” with Beard and has grown close to the Canes’ receivers coach. Beard has played a significant role in Staley’s interest in Miami.

He said he’s “not looking for flashy things” and will instead keep an eye on the smaller details during his visit. His next three official visits will play major roles in his decision.

“They’re going to be really important,” Staley said. “They’re going to show a program’s true colors. It’s going to be the small details when I go to places. If I walk in the hall with a coach and I see another coach, is the other coach going to greet me? I look at details like that.”

CaneSport’s Take

Clemson is listed as the leader in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with North Carolina slightly behind in second, Miami third and Tennessee fourth, although the RPM is lagging slightly at the moment.

It feels like this recruitment will come down to Miami and Tennessee and whoever can make a stronger impression this month.
