4-star RB J’Marion ‘Phat’ Burnette on Auburn commitment: ‘I’m 100 percent, I love where I’m at’
OPP, ALABAMA – J’Marion “Phat” Burnette, a 4-star running back committed to Auburn, was back in action on Thursday night as Andalusia (Ala.) High School took on Opp (Ala.) High School. It was his first game back from being injured a year ago.
He is one of the longest standing commitments for Auburn’s 2024 class. Many Auburn fans, and probably Auburn coaching staff, were excited to see him healthy again. Burnette and Andalusia took care of business, so he was pulled in the third quarter. Before that, he did some damage when he got the ball.
“It feels great,” Burnette said. “To be honest with y’all, first play I was nervous. The play I got hurt on just runs through my head consistently. But after that first play I was good. Everything is going good now.”
Burnette is a big back. He stands at 6-foot-1 220 pounds according to a few coaches at Andalusia. He was still able to make the opposing defense on the outside run plays. Burnette had a 30+ yard touchdown run on an outside zone stretch play.
“They put 9 in the box, bear front, outside zone is going to work 90 percent of the time,” Burnette said. “I had great blockers in front and we are just going to keep making those plays.”
Auburn commitment
How is everything going with his Auburn commitment?
“It’s going great,” Burnette said. “We’re on a good track, doing good in the class. We are just building right now.”
When will Burnette be able to make some Auburn games?
“Of course, I should be making it to all the home games, every one of them,” Burnette said.
His best relationship in recruiting is with Cadillac Williams, period.
“It’s been great,” Burnette said. “Nobody can compare to him.”
Who are some top targets for Burnette and the other commits?
“We want Dre (Deandre) Carter especially,” Burnette said. “We’re going to keep going at KJ (Bolden) and just keep trying to get the best to Auburn. We want the best.”
Burnette’s cousin is a fellow top running back recruit. He is working hard on getting him to Auburn as well.
“I’m trying to get him (Alvin Henderson),” Burnette said. “We need to get this 2025 class rolling now. I feel good, he is here somewhere (tonight). I think we are going to get him.”
Is Burnette going to visit anywhere else and how solid in his Auburn commit is he?
Nah, I’m good where I am at,” Burnette said. “I’m 100 percent, I love where I’m at.”
