Today saw the end of the first wave of FSU Football’s official visits this recruiting cycle, and the Seminoles appear to have made great impressions across the board.
Four-star running back Christian Clark of Arizona was back in Tallahassee this weekend for his first official visit of the summer.
“It was fun, I really enjoyed it. It felt like family out here …,” Clark said. “All the players took me in as a little brother, made me feel at home. … I loved it here. My mom went here, my uncle (former FSU athlete Kenny Felder) went here, so Florida State’s always been in my blood. I can say it really felt like home.”
Clark said the biggest development in his recruitment with FSU has been the relationships made within the program, not only with running backs coach David Johnson, but also with other players in the running back room.
“They’re just close with each other — like all of them they do everything together. They’re just locked in. They have the same goal and they support each other,” Clark said. “[With Coach Johnson], it’s like an uncle-nephew relationship. We got real close … he’s been able to use like three, four running-backs a game, and they’re all just being productive. They’ve got a lot of yards per carry.
“He just develops them in just a great way. Teaches the running backs unselfishness, teaches them life skills.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Clark is listed as the fourth best player in the state of Arizona, as well as the 21st-ranked running back nationally.
As for his meeting with FSU head coach Mike Norvell, Clark said it was once again not just about football.
“Just discussed how they’d use me in the offense, how I could benefit off the field as well as on the field,” Clark said with a smile on his face. “They all keep it real. Like it’s just a great environment, this is like a strong brotherhood that I’ve seen here that I admire. Somewhere I would like to be around, even when football’s over. Just being in a good space around good people.”
Clark said he hopes to commit before his senior season of high school, but that anything could happen. As for a leader in his recruitment, he said it is still open and between the top five of Florida State, Alabama, Oregon, Texas and Georgia.
Another big prospect in Tallahassee this weekend for an official visit was four-star offensive tackle Nyier Daniels.
“It was phenomenal,” Daniels said. “They took me around and out to eat almost every day and they just showed me what’s it like to be, you know, a Seminole. … I’m here to look at to see if the shoe fits, and it might possibly fit.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, the four-star prospect from New Jersey is listed as the 11th-best offensive tackle in the country, as well as the second-best player in his home state.
“Highlights of the trip was mainly getting time to spend with players because when you spend time with the players, you get to see their point of view …,” Daniels said. “Rob Scott was a cool dude, one of the coolest gentlemen that I met here at Florida State. He just gave me the ropes and the rundown. He was telling me that he can’t walk in my shoes, that everybody’s position is different.”
Daniels, who is listed 6 feet, 7.5 inches tall and 371 pounds, also raved about his relationship with offensive coordinator/line coach Alex Atkins.
“It was dope to spend the weekend with Coach Atkins because, you know, that’s my position coach. I get to see how he was …,” Danuels said. “My relationship is very strong with Coach Atkins. I think he’s a cool coach. I think he can really help me get somewhere and accomplish what I want to accomplish, and I do believe that we have the same goals.”
As for where Florida State stands in his recruitment, the New Jersey product said the Seminoles are definitely trending in the right direction.
“They stack up very high for me …,” he said. “I love Florida State.”
Daniels will visit Rutgers next week, followed by Georgia and Texas later on.
