4-star QB Bryce Baker: ‘I’m really interested in NC State’

4-star QB Bryce Baker: ‘I’m really interested in NC State’

NC State was Bryce Baker’s first power-five offer. The Wolfpack extended a scholarship to the East Forsyth High star in January, and he visited campus shortly after, sharing an overwhelmingly positive first impression of the program

Since then, Penn State, UNC, Virginia Tech and others have all offered the four-star quarterback, who just wrapped up a busy spring that included another trip to Raleigh. He impressed folks at camps all over the east coast this year and now plans on embarking on a lengthy summer visit schedule.

Baker plans on returning to NC State June 10, where he will camp with the team and have the chance to work with quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper.

“Coach Roper stood out to me and his knowledge about the game,” Baker said Apr. 23. “Every time I go, I learn something new, so I love that part of it.”

The Wolfpack assistant stopped by Walkertown High, the signal-caller’s former school, to see the sophomore host one of his pro day-style workouts this spring. Baker is excited to continue growing his bond with Roper and the rest of the Pack.

“I just love the program,” Baker said May 25.

“I’m really interested in NC State.”

Despite the early bond he has with the in-state program, North Carolina’s No. 7 sophomore told TheWolfpacker.com that no schools are standing out from his constantly growing offer list. He plans on camping at all of the in-state schools this summer and traveling out of state to stop by Alabama for a second time this year.

While on his visits, Baker carries around an iPad and writes down his thoughts, learning more about his position from college coaches and using it as a tool to evaluate each program.

“Each person teaches something new, each has a different style of teaching, a different offense,” Baker said. “Taking my iPad and taking notes allows me to compare that from a bird’s eye view.”

Baker will likely have an offer from almost every power-five program in the nation by this time next year, but NC State’s early interest means a lot.

“That just shows that they see what I have to offer,” Baker said. “They are going off of my potential, but that matters to me for sure.”

In addition to his June trip to campus, the quarterback has also previously shared that he is considering stopping by the Alpha Wolf Showcase and July and wants to visit for a game day as well.

Those upcoming visits to NC State and beyond will be crucial. He knows that each program will put its best foot forward while he is on campus, but he shared exactly what he will be looking for during the trips.

“They’re going to try to show me all of their perks, but I really want to know the whole process and how they develop people, especially at my position,” Baker said. “That’s going to be big for me, and that’s one of the strongest pieces I consider when deciding.”

Baker threw for 1,823 yards and scored 21 total touchdowns in 10 games during the 2022 season. On3 considers him the No. 211 recruit in the country and the No. 17 quarterback in North Carolina’s 2025 class. NC State leads his Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 41.9 percent.
