4-star prospect visits Miami Hurricanes, comes away impressed: “Practice was intense … everybody was in attack mode”

The Miami Hurricanes hosted a handful of elite prospects this past weekend, including 2025 Miami Central EDGE Armondo Blount. The four-star prospect has visited Miami countless times but says this most recent trip was much different from anything he has experienced before. 

“Saturday was a different type of vibe,” Blount told CaneSport. “It was a more energized type of vibe because the practice was intense, the coaches were screaming, everyone was moving fast and everybody was in attack mode.” 

Blount, the No. 1 overall recruit in the state of Florida in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, says the leadership and the player’s relationship with the coaches stuck out to him the most as he watched Miami practice and go through their first full scrimmage of the spring.

He also had the opportunity to observe new Hurricanes defensive line coach Jason Taylor work with his group, and he was pleased both from a coaching and a personal standpoint.

“I watched him up close and personal work with the defensive line and go through their drills,” Blount said. “He was on them  and you can tell when someone has a good relationship with the kids. Just how they were talking with each other that made them want to go harder.”

During the visit, Blount had conversations with multiple staff members including Taylor, defensive line coach Joe Salave’a, who he called “his guy” and head coach Mario Cristobal. 

“He (Cristobal) was just talking to me, my mom, and my family just getting to know us and things of that nature,” Blount said. “He’s an honest guy, he’s a happy person, and he’s not going to lie.”

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, The Hurricanes, and the Florida Gators have the highest odds of landing Blount as of now with Miami sitting second with a 22.8% and Florida atop the list with a 34.5%. 

“All the schools are equal right now,” Blount said. “The biggest thing for me is going to be if the scheme fits me. A lot of people fit different schemes but if the scheme doesn’t fit me, then the school may not be for me. Also, if the area is a good area for me and the environment. Mainly the scheme and the people I’m going to be around.”

Regarding Miami, Blount believes the Canes are doing everything right at the moment and wants to continue to build his relationship with his hometown program. The 6-foot-3, 254-pound lineman is shaping up to be one of the best prospects in the 2025 class, and Miami is making a powerful impression early.

“The relationship is feeling like it’s getting strong already,” Blount said. “I just want to see them continue being them and be the people they are outside of football and if they’re going to be there for me if I need them.”
