4-star Maryland CB sets Miami visit, talks Hurricanes interest
Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy 2025 four-star cornerback Kevyn Humes has had his sights set on a Miami return visit for some time, and this weekend, he’ll finally make his long-awaited return to South Florida.
Humes, who will visit this weekend for the Hurricanes’ Saturday game against Georgia Tech, last visited Miami during the Battle Miami 7-on-7 tournament earlier this spring but was only able to stop by campus for a few hours with hundreds of other recruits, and he’s hoped his return to the area will be a more personalized visit and closer interactions with the Hurricanes’ coaching staff.
He’s maintained a high level of interest in the Canes over the past several months and says he has “almost daily” conversations with the staff since coaches became permitted to directly call and text 2025 recruits Aug. 1.
Humes is the the No. 308 recruit in the On3 Industry Ranking and stands at 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds. He holds more than two dozen offers including Miami, Georgia, Ohio State and Notre Dame.
“Basically, I’m taking the trip because they’ve been showing one of the larger amounts of love in my recruitment so far,” Humes said. “Coach (Jahmile) Addae, coach (Derek Nicholson), coach (analyst Donovan) Varner, they’ve been reaching out a lot to me, my teammates and my coaches to try to get me down here for a game.”
Having multiple coaches recruit him has helped the Hurricanes make an impression early on. Notre Dame, Tennessee, Oregon and Maryland have also made strong recruiting efforts since the start of August, but Miami will be the first program to receive a fall visit from the four-star prospect. He also plans to attend Notre Dame’s home game against USC later this month and Oregon when the Ducks welcome Washington State.
Humes said he made the decision to visit Miami late last week to take a proper visit to South Florida.
“I always wanted to come back, I just never knew what time I would,” Humes said. “Then Miami’s coaches hit me up and said this was the perfect week, and it was our first bye week. It was slightly random, but I always wanted to do it.”
He said he wants to use his weekend trip to Miami to get a feel for the direction the program is going — if it’s taking steps toward returning to “The U, where the defense was playing violent and aggressive and competing for conference and national championships,” or “if it’s just a school where they just get around and have fun.”
“That’s really what I want to take away and find out,” Humes said.
CaneSport’s Take
This weekend is already shaping up to be a major recruiting event for the Hurricanes with prospects like No. 1 overall recruit Jeremiah Smith and four-star priority receiver Ny Carr expected to attend, so getting a four-star cornerback like Humes to Hard Rock should only add to what’s already shaping up to be an impressive visitor list.
