4-star LB Chris Cole ready for a deeper look at Tennessee

Salem (Va.) Salem High School On300 linebacker Chris Cole has been busy this spring and summer with visits. He is enjoying some down time currently as the recruiting calendar is in the middle of a dead period, but once things open back up at the end of the month, he plans to return to Tennessee for another look at the Vols.
Cole most recently visited Knoxville in March, and what he saw during that visit, added to the relationship he has built with the Tennessee staff since the trip, made him want to take a deeper dive into the program.
“I have a great relationship with all the coaches,” Cole told Volquest of why he wanted to return to Knoxville for another look at Tennessee. “I talk to Coach Heupel all the time. Then daily, I talk to Coach BJ, and we have a great relationship. When I went down there, I had a great time. I got to watch a practice, and I loved the way the coaches coached on detail, so I want to get back down there to learn more about Tennessee football.”
Cole who holds a 6-2.5, 210-pound frame, knows that Tennessee wants to use him as a WILL linebacker in their scheme.
He has built a solid relationship with Brian Jean-Mary to this point.
“I would say that most of the time, he just keeps it real with me,” Cole said of what stands out about Jean-Mary. “We talk about life, and it is not always about football. I like that. He is a family man, too, and cares about his players.”
When Cole returns to campus later this month, he will focus on a few key aspects.
“I would say I want to see more of the stuff I haven’t had a chance to see yet,” Cole said of this. “I want to see the campus more and the dorms and talk about the academics side of that. I would like to get some one-on-one time with the coaches, too.”
Cole’s high school teammate and close friend, Peyton Lewis, is currently committed to the Vols and has been actively peer recruiting him for months now.
“Well, he has always loved Tennessee,” Cole said of Lewis. “We have a great relationship. We are like best friends. We have been playing football together since we were back in rec league. He really tries to push me to go there. He gives hints about that at practice while we are competing with each other.”
This upcoming visit will be important for the Vols with Cole, as he plans to make a college decision sometime in mid-to-late August.
“I would say somewhere I can get a great education,” Cole said of what is important to him in the recruiting process. “Where great pople are around, such as the players and coaches. Then the third thing is where I can be developed as a man and a player, too, so I can make it to the next level.”
