4-Star Illinois Edge Looking to Lock in USC Official Visit
Chicago (Ill.) Kenwood Academy four-star EDGE Marquise Lightfoot is in the midst of a hectic few months of spring visits. Already completed are trips to Michigan, Ohio State, Purdue, Illinois, Miami, Florida, Georgia and Alabama.
The Hurricanes, who hosted him over his spring break earlier this month, have made a major impression. So much so that he already has an official visit locked in and has the program at the top of his list right now.
“I say Miami probably impressed me the most because that was my first time down there, and I did not expect to see what I was seeing,” Lightfoot told On3 National Recruiting Director Chad Simmons. “Their campus is beautiful. The coaching staff is amazing. You know, I really trust that what they’re doing will actually work. They’re building it back up to what it used to be, maybe even more. And I truly believe that if I go there, I will become an All-American, you know, I will be developed by Jason Taylor, who is the new pass rush coach there.”
Top Schools, Visits & Possible Summer Decision
The Wolverine reported they learned the list of the notable contenders for Lightfoot outside of Michigan, are Miami, Georgia and Alabama, Purdue and Illinois. Although USC wasn’t mentioned, Lightfoot informed WeAreSC on Wednesday of his plans to visit USC in the near future.
“I’ll be taking a USC official visit, I’m just not sure of the date yet,” Lightfoot said. “I should be releasing that soon.“
He says the main schools he talks to right now are Miami, USC, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama and Michigan.
Lightfoot also told Chad Simmons he’s planning to visit the Trojans this weekend. His longstanding relationship with defensive line coach Shaun Nua makes USC a legitimate contender.
“Coach Nua been recruiting me since I was a sophomore,” he said. “He showed me a lot of how much he wants me as a player. He sends me videos and clips of what he likes that I do and the players that he has developed to the next level.”
Plans often change, but Lightfoot says he’d like to be committed before the end of the summer. But he’ll extend his recruitment into the fall if necessary.
