4-star G Kayden Edwards updates recruitment talking potential visits to SMU, TCU, Texas Tech

Kayden Edwards is currently the No. 87 overall player in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 23.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.4 steals this season knocking down 3.2 threes per game. Edwards is playing with the YGC program on the Puma Pro16 Circuit where he is averaging 27.0 points and shooting 44.7 percent from three on 5.3 makes per game.

“My game is really fast, it’s really quick,” Edwards told On3. “I don’t really need a bunch of moves to get by somebody and I can light it up from the outside. I’m a three-level scorer. I watch a lot of D’Aaron Fox, you know the lefty guard, fast, and quick.”

“I haven’t taken any official visits yet,” Edwards said. “I’ve been to TCU on an unofficial, and with the old staff at SMU.” (*note – Edwards took his unofficial visit to see the new staff at SMU on Wednesday, May 15.)

Edwards talks potential official visits

TCU: “Living right around the corner, they come to check on me a good bit. With TCU, it’s about more than just basketball. They’re not just going to use you to get ahead for themselves, they want to see you do better in life.

“They let their guards play. They let them get out in transition and run, and they let their shooters shoot. That is what I do.”

SMU: “I’ll go to SMU on an unofficial this week to see the new staff. They talk a lot to me about being a hometown hero. They want me to come and see the new staff, and get in the gyms and stuff, you know, get a feel for what they have going over there. It’s more than basketball with them over there. They’re checking in a lot and I want to see what all they have going.”

TEXAS TECH: “Kellen Buffington, you know we call him Buff, he is really into Ducanville basketball and that is where I go to school. So he has been at the school, talking about their program. He’s really been like an uncle to me. Going there would be like having the family on the sidelines.

“They play a lot of defense over there, so I would go in and be active on defense, getting steals in the passing lanes. They let their guards score and make plays.”

“Oklahoma and USC haven’t reached out yet for the offer,” Edwards said. “But they’ve been consistently reaching out and talking about getting me on campus too.”

OKLAHOMA: “They like to run a lot of plays for their shooters. They are really intense over there, and I like coaches who are not going to baby you and are not afraid to get on you. it’s a nice culture over there.”

USC: “Coach Muss (Eric Musselman) recently reached out to me a couple of days ago. I haven’t been in a ton of contact with them yet, but we are going to build our relationship.”

In his words

“I don’t have a time frame for any of this yet,” Edwards said. “I’m going to have to sit down with my family and talk about all that.

I want to go somewhere that it is about more than basketball. I know that I have mentioned that a lot in this conversation, but that is really important to me. And I want to go somewhere that will get me ready for the next level, and prepare me to fulfill my dream of playing in the NBA.

“Getting on the floor as a freshman is big to me. I can do whatever the coach asks me to do, however, he wants me to play, I just want to get on the floor and compete.”
