4-star Florida DB Kensley Faustin: ‘Coach Freeze says he going to be on me heavy’

4-star Florida DB Kensley Faustin: ‘Coach Freeze says he going to be on me heavy’

Kensley Faustin, a 4-star safety from Naples (Fla.) may be a new name to track for Auburn fans, but it is an important one. The Tigers are making some serious progress with Faustin, who now has an official visit set to Auburn.

Faustin (5-foot-10 170 pounds) is the No. 369 overall player in the country, the No. 33 safety, and the No. 54 player in the state of Florida.

Auburn, so far, has not been overly specific about where he might project in the secondary, but he mostly plays safety on the high school level. The reason there hasn’t been a distinction? Auburn likes him in different spots.

“I like Auburn a lot, they’ve been recruiting me heavy ever since they offered,” Faustin said. “They never stopped. I like what they have to offer for me. They said I’m very versatile and they can see me playing early because of that. I like that.”

Etheridge, McGriff, and Freeze leading the way

Three coaches have been recruiting Faustin as of late.

“It’s been Coach Zac (Etheridge), Coach Crime Dawg (Wesley McGriff) and Coach Hugh Freeze,” Faustin said.

Etheridge sees him as a versatile player as a safety slotting in different spots.

“He likes the way I am, how physical I am, and that I can play any secondary position. He just likes how I am,” Faustin said.

As for Tigers’ coach Hugh Freeze, the recruiting heat has been turned up lately.

“Coach Freeze says he’s going to be on me heavy,” Faustin said. “He said that he doesn’t find many DB’s that can do what I do and how versatile I am. So he said he’s going to be heavy on recruiting me.”

Faustin likes the attention he’s getting from Auburn and from other schools.

“I feel like they’re pushing really hard for me right now,” Faustin said. “I’d say so far, Auburn and Texas A&M are the two schools that are recruiting me really hard right now. And, Penn State and LSU, Miami, Tennessee and Florida are recruiting me hard as well.”

Faustin will officially visit Auburn on the weekend of June 9-11. He has two other official visits set up for now.

“Yes, I have Florida State June 23rd, and I have UCF June 2nd.,” Faustin said.

Why Auburn is firmly in the mix

Faustin says he’s in no hurry to narrow his schools down.

“I’m not in a rush and have no idea when I might narrow it down,” Faustin said. “I had started to narrow it down, but I don’t have a commitment date yet.”

His official visit will be his first trip to Auburn.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the town and if it is somewhere I can see myself fit,” Faustin said. “Where I don’t have distractions, but it’s still somewhere I can go out and have fun. I’m not a party guy, so I focus on football. The people, how I fit in the town and the environment is important.”

If he were to choose Auburn in the end, why would that be?

“The biggest reason would be how hard they’re pushing on the recruiting,” Faustin said. “I feel like with my skillset I can play on any level because of how versatile I am. I’m going to be an early enrollee so I feel like that will put me ahead of them game. With that, Auburn, this year was not their best year so they’re kind of rebuilding and trying to find new pieces. With that, I feel like I’ll have a chance to compete and then fit in a spot. I can be something special at Auburn like the DB’s that have come through like Smoke Monday and others.”
