4-star DL TJ Lindsey to visit Auburn for Big Cat Weekend

4-star DL TJ Lindsey to visit Auburn for Big Cat Weekend

Might Auburn get another win over Texas on the defensive line? Maybe. TJ Lindsey, a top defensive line target from Bryant (Ark.) IMG Academy, tells Auburn Live he will attend Big Cat Weekend at the end of July.

The Tigers landed Malik Blocton, an in-state defensive lineman from Pike Road (Ala.), over Texas on Saturday. Now, they are working on another in Lindsey. Having him at Big Cat is a step in the right direction.

Lindsey recently spoke with Auburn Live saying that his Auburn and Texas visits stood out among the others (Texas A&M and Miami).

“All of the visits have been really good, Auburn was definitely one of the two best I would say,” Lindsey said. “I learned a lot and I would say Auburn and Texas are probably the best ones.”

Lindsey says that four schools stand out, but Auburn and Texas could be even higher on his list.

“Auburn’s chances are very high, I would say they are probably in the top three, and that could be anybody,” Lindsey said. “Same situation with (Texas).”

Lindsey is the No. 329 overall player in the country, the No. 30 defensive lineman in the country, and the No. 50 player in the state of Florida according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

Two strengths

— Before ever looking at Lindsey’s film, he has an SEC level frame. Actually, it is an NFL level frame. He is listed at 6-foot-3 270 pounds, but he has the frame to add more weight. Interestingly, even if he adds more weight, he can still play as a strong side end or 3-technique. He is a versatile prospect on the defensive line.

— Lindsey is not ready to slide down and be an interior defensive lineman, but he can be with some training and added strength. With his size, he has excellent mobility. Lindsey can run and he can rush the passer as a defensive lineman. His size and frame would suggest he plays on the inside, but he has enough athleticism to play all over.

One area for improvement

— Athleticism is not a problem and will not be a problem moving forward. Hands and separation appear to be his one downfall early on. That, of course, is coachable. He will have to use his length to get offensive linemen out of his body more consistently. Right now, he lets his opponents get hands on too often and loses some reps because of it. When he fixes that, he will be tough to deal with.
