4-star DL T.A. Cunningham says Miami is ‘definitely a place I could see myself’

Los Alamitos (Calif.) 2024 four-star defensive lineman T.A. Cunningham made two trips to Miami this spring: one to see what Hurricane coaches were raving about, and one to make sure his outstanding first visit wasn’t a fluke.

He doesn’t want to make a decision just yet, but the No. 79 overall recruit and No. 10 defensive lineman in the On3 Industry Ranking is starting to feel warm about the Canes after attending Miami’s spring game Friday night. It was his second visit to South Florida after visiting Miami for the Hurricanes’ March 4 junior day, which went exceptionally well.

“It’s a genuine connection with the people, the staff, the coaches, everybody here,” Cunningham said. “It’s a great place, a great city to be in just in general. It’s definitely a place I could see myself at in the next year.”

The 6-foot-6.5, 275-pound lineman plans to transfer to a Miami-area high school within the next year and said Miami is recruiting him hard. He says he has love for the Canes but emphasized his recruitment is still fully open.

Penn State, LSU, Texas A&M and UCLA are also making pushes for the four-star. Cunningham said he doesn’t like to compare the amount of interest he’s receiving from the respective schools, but Miami is showing serious interest.

And Cunningham has no problem returning the favor.

“Obviously, having coach Jason Taylor, a Pro Bowler, as your defensive ends coach, that’s definitely something that appeals to somebody in my position,” Cunningham said. “The city is like a whole different vibe from even other parts of Florida and definitely other states. It’s definitely its own unique place. It’s definitely a place I could see myself fitting in at.”

Miami is the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine’s new leader to land Cunningham with an estimated 76.1% chance of landing the blue-chip prospect. USC is second with an estimated 3.3% chance. Georgia and Georgia Tech have less than a 3% chance. The Trojans were the previous RPM leader before Cunningham’s weekend visit. The four-star has more than three dozen offers.

He’s given thought to returning to Miami in some capacity (either for an official or an unofficial visit) this summer but doesn’t yet have anything scheduled.

CaneSport’s Take

If you’re looking for 2024 prospects with star potential, look no further than Cunningham. And if he does, in fact, transfer to a Miami-area high school for his senior season, there won’t be a scenario where Miami’s coaching staff lets him out of their sights.
