4-star DL Javeon Campbell feels good about Auburn with decision after official visits
AUBURN – Javeon Campbell, a 4-star defensive lineman from Frankfort (Kent.) Western Hills, officially visited Auburn from Monday to Wednesday. It was his second trip. He did not get the full experience on the first trip.
“Spring practice, and for their pro-day, so I couldn’t be around the players or anything,” Campbell said.
The second trip was much more extensive.
“It went good,” Campbell said. “Just the coaches, they’re really good people and genuine. They’re actually interested in you and they’re nice people.”
Campbell is the No. 135 overall player in the class of 2025, the No. 12 defensive lineman, and the No. 1 player in the state of Kentucky according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
Coaching staff stands out
What were some highlights of the visit?
“We went bowling last night, took pictures, and just ate and talked and things like that,” Campbell said.
Which coaches are Campbell’s main guys?
“Coach (Josh) Aldridge and Coach Vontrell (King-Williams)” Campbell said. “Recruiting me as a D-end and maybe a D-tackle later on.”
Campbell likes how there would be multiple coaches at his position if he were to choose Auburn.
“Oh yeah, they’re both funny and great people,” Campbell said. “But, they get along really well. Even the other coaches, defensive line coaches, I like how there are multiple. You will be able to get coached by different people.”
Coaches were honest with Campbell during the visit and told him the exact plan if he were to play for them.
“Right now, they said my first year to focus on one thing,” Campbell said. “I’m raw and like a new player, so they want me to focus on one position. Later on, try to get me a little bit of everywhere. I feel like that would be good for me to catch up with everybody and be versatile.”
Campbell loved spending time with Hugh Freeze.
“Oh yeah, he’s a really great guy,” Campbell said. “He’s really genuine, he cares about all of his players. I got to talk to Joe (Phillips) one of the defensive linemen. We talked about just how Freeze is a great guy.”
What is next?
Where does Auburn stand after this visit?
“Really high and I could see myself coming here,” Campbell said. “I really feel good about the school.”
What has Auburn so high on his list?
“Really just like the culture here, all the coaches, Coach King-Williams, Coach Aldridge, Coach Freeze, just great people and they are actually interested in me,” Campbell said. “They’re trying to build a program and I would love to be a part of it.”
Who else is in the running for Campbell?
“Really all of my top schools that I am visiting,” he said. “Miami, Kentucky, Georgia, and Alabama. I leave for Alabama tomorrow. I am supposed to go to Georgia after Bama for the weekend.”
A decision will come shortly after the official visits wrap up.
“After all of my OV’s, just take a week and a half and gather my thoughts,” Campbell said. “Compare and where I feel good, then choose.”
Will Campbell return to Auburn?
“Maybe if the coaches want to see me up here again,” Campbell said.
