4-star DL Brandon Brown, a Florida Gators legacy, is a name to track
MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Brandon Brown vividly recalls learning Florida had offered him a scholarship. The date was Feb. 7.
“I was happy,” he said. “I called my mom. She was happy for me. She went to go get a shirt that day .. a Florida Gators shirt.”
Brown is a name for Florida fans to know in the 2025 class. He’s a 4-star defensive lineman at Eau Gallie who already claims several Power 5 offers.
Brown’s uncle was a standout for the Gators
And, he has a connection to the Gators.
Former Florida and NFL defensive lineman Joe Cohen is his uncle and the two are close.
“He coached me throughout little league and taught me the fundamentals,” Brown said. “He says Florida is a good school to go to … he liked Florida.”
Brown has another link to Florida. He said former Gators safety Marcus Maye, also a Melbourne product, is “like a brother.” Maye plays in the NFL.
According to Brown, schools such as Georgia, Florida State, Oregon, Texas and Texas A&M also are involved early. He claims to have no leader yet. But one offer admittedly got him most excited.
“It was Florida. I really like Florida,” Brown said. “That was my dream school growing up.”
Brandon Brown is one of the top rising juniors in Florida
Brown is the No. 26 recruit in the 2025 class for the state of Florida according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Right now, he’s 6-foot-1 and and probably around 260 pounds. The good news: He’s only 15 — and appears to still be growing according to his coach.
Brown is in the early stages of building a relationship with the Florida staff, but he did attend the Orange & Blue Game in April.
“I liked it,” he said. “I liked the field, I love the colors, I liked going into the facility.”
Tight ends coach Russ Callaway is Brown’s area recruiter for Florida.
“He said he likes how physical I am and how I use my hands,” Brown said.
Brown hopes to visit multiple schools this summer. He has a sister who lives in Texas so the Longhorns will get a visit. And, he wants to return to Gainesville both in June and this fall for a game.
“I just want to see how they workout and stuff,” he said. “I want them to have a good season.”
