4-star DB Kris Wokomah sees family atmosphere at SMU

4-star DB Kris Wokomah sees family atmosphere at SMU

2024 Arlington (Tex.) Bowie safety Kris Wokomah took his SMU official visit last weekend, getting yet another look at the local program. The On300 prospect and his family enjoyed their time on the Hilltop.

“It was great. The coaches and the staff showed great hospitality. It was fun and exciting the whole weekend,” Wokomah told On3. “What I liked about the visit so much was that everything felt family orientated. The coaches made everything feel like a family. It was the vibe, everything they said and did to show me and my family love. The coaches and how they made me and family feel (stood out most).”

From defensive coordinator Scott Symons, graduate assistant Chad Adams, assistant director of recruiting Tyler Foster, running backs coach Khenon Hall and others, SMU put its best foot forward.

Symons sees the four-star as someone who can make an impact right away. Hall also connects with him as a fellow Dallas area native.

“First thing they took me through was coach taking me in the office and showed me my film, things that I do well and how I can fit in the program,” Wokomah said. “My relationship with coach Symons has grown good because he always checks on me, pulls up to my school, and we talk a lot. What makes us close is how he is when he’s around me. I go up to the school a lot. We’re around each other a lot.

“Coach Hall, we’re both from the city. He calls and checks on me a lot. Lets me know things about SMU, what they got going on and they want me to join their program.”

SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee, who recently celebrated his birthday, got time with Wokomah as well.

“It was great. He had us at his house. We talked a little bit of football and had fun. We spent time with him and his wife,” he said. “He was just letting me know that they really want me and they think I’m a great fit for their program.”

Coming off the first of three official visits, Wokomah said SMU’s firmly in the mix.

“SMU stands high on my list. I think it was a great experience the whole weekend. Me and my family both enjoyed the hospitality and everything that they presented to us.”

He’ll officially visit Texas Tech then Baylor before trying to make a decision. Still, he doesn’t have a timeline on a decision and is taking things slow. He said doesn’t have a favorite, at this time.

On3 ranks Wokomah as the No. 300 overall prospect in the country and No. 30 safety in the nation. SMU leads the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
