3-star CB Ricky Knight recaps Miami Hurricanes visit as recruiting battle with Florida State heats up, looking to set up UM OV
Miami has found itself in another recruiting battle with Florida State, this time for Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) The Benjamin School 2024 3-star ATH Ricky Knight. So the Hurricanes’ coaching staff was sure to make him feel like a priority target on his unofficial visit Thursday.
Knight made his first visit to Miami of the spring ahead of his unofficial visit to Florida State next week, and both programs are continuing to show heavy interest in the three-star. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and secondary coach Jahmile Addae made it clear to Knight they want to develop him into a better player and a better man, and both schools are talking to the No. 38 ATH in the 2024 class almost daily.
“FSU and UM are two schools that I’m very interested in,” Knight said. “Determining my college will be hard, but I’m going to pray about it and fully think it through.”
Florida State was the first school to extend an offer to Knight, although Miami showed interest early as well. The three-star, who both programs are recruiting at cornerback, has watched his stock skyrocket following an impressive showing at the All-American Bowl Combine in San Antonio in late December and now has well over a dozen offers. He’ll take an official visit to Florida State June 13.
He’s a strong believer in what the Hurricanes are building defensively as well.
“I truly enjoyed my visit,” Knight said. “The vibe of the practice was amazing! Everything was intense, everybody competing, no laziness, everything is down to detail! Coach Addae is an amazing coach, he has taken an undisciplined defensive back core and molded them into something great. With Kam (Kinchens) leading the defense, they can be a top five defense this season.”
He emphasized Miami sits “very high” on his radar following the visit and said he didn’t feel like there were any particular highlights from the trip.
“Honestly, all of it was great,” he said.
Knight says he is looking to set up a Miami official visit but the date has not been set yet.
CaneSport’s Take
Miami and Florida State’s recruiting battle has the feel of one that will go down to the wire, and I’d be surprised if either program lets up short of the December signing day. Both schools have the advantage of being two programs who started recruiting Knight early before he received his three-star ranking, which is a huge part of why Knight has such interest in the two schools.
