3-2-1: Where does Kansas State turn next?

3-2-1: Where does Kansas State turn next?

THREE THINGS WE LEARNED ABOUT KANSAS STATE

1. DOUBLE DOSE OF COMMITS: Chris Klieman and Kansas State were active on the recruiting trail last weekend. Instead of using the time to evaluate prospects, they remained back in Manhattan and hosted official visitors. That resulted in K-State securing commitments from two defensive backs that can help the Wildcats this season in junior college standout Daniel Cobbs and Southeast Missouri State transfer cornerback Tyler Nelome.

2. RECEIVER: After landing two additions on the defensive side of the ball for the upcoming season, we also uncovered that Kansas State has room to grab some help on the offensive side of the ball, too. If Collin Klein, Matthew Middleton and company can spot a receiver to their liking, I anticipate them taking advantage.

3. FIRST: Lakota East prospect Jamison Kitna became the first 2025 quarterback to be offered by Klein and K-State over the weekend. That is a high school in the Cincinnati area, which makes sense since he is the son of former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jon Kitna. They recently returned to the Ohio city after being in Burleson, Texas. It would not be shocking to see him visit Kansas State in the near future, but he does hold a strong early list of other suitors that includes Baylor, Houston, Texas Tech, Duke and Pittsburgh.

TWO QUESTIONS

1. YURI: Does he enter the transfer portal? Yuri Collins removing his name from the NBA Draft and returning to college was once a lock and would be considered a very good thing for K-State. That would mean he’d be an available recruit because he does not intend to stay united with Travis Ford and Saint Louis. However, it has become quiet around him and chatter suggests he is considering staying in and continuing to ride the professional path.

2. KEYONTAE: We’re a week away, at most, from knowing if Keyontae Johnson will return to Kansas State or not. While most believe he can carve out an NBA career beginning this year, it will come down to whether or not the league chooses to medically clear him.

ONE K-STATE PREDICTION

1. A RETURN: I know that I’m not exactly breaking any news, but we definitely expect Nae’Qwan Tomlin to return to K-State for another season. He is also currently in the NBA Draft process and has been invited for close to a double-digit number of workouts. At the same time, KSO has learned that he has also remained in communication with the staff and has helped speak with potential transfer targets in an effort to sway them in favor of the Wildcats.
