3-2-1: Kansas State will be active after dead period

It is time for the Kansas State edition of the 3-2-1 feature.

THREE THINGS WE LEARNED ABOUT KANSAS STATE

1. Dug: It was a long week. It feels like it has been a while since Michigan transfer Dug McDaniel committed to Kansas State over a long list of other suitors. He is the type of guard the Wildcats wanted to land last year but fell a little short. Having the necessary NIL resources this time around is a beautiful thing.
2. Tang turns down Arkansas: Mainly, it felt like a long, long week because K-State head coach Jerome Tang did seriously flirt with Arkansas and even interviewed for the job. Soon after Chris Beard walked away from the negotiating table, Tang did as well.
3. Ayoka: Item No. 1 was good news. Item No. 2 was good news. So is item No. 3. Jeff Mittie and Kansas State announced that Ayoka Lee would use her last year of eligibility to remain with the Wildcats and play one more season in purple.

TWO QUESTIONS

1. Coaching carousel: The Wildcats dodged the Arkansas bullet. If Scott Drew takes the Kentucky job, will they be able to dodge the Baylor bullet? Obviously, Tang was an assistant there for 19 seasons. But it’s not a guarantee he’s at the top of the list. Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland could also be who the Bears prefer. And he may want it more.
2. Leipold > Klieman: Is it true? Coaching rankings typically have Kansas head coach Lance Leipold ahead of K-State head coach Chris Klieman. I wouldn’t have it in that order.

ONE K-STATE PREDICTION

1. Portal commit: My hunch, and I think it’s a good one, is that we’ll hear about Kansas State adding another commitment from the transfer portal in the very near future.
