3-2-1: Camp season at Kansas State is upon us

3-2-1: Camp season at Kansas State is upon us

THREE THINGS WE LEARNED ABOUT KANSAS STATE

1. KEYONTAE: In what was a relief to many, Kansas State star Keyontae Johnson received the best news when it was revealed that the NBA medical team had cleared him for all activities. Because of that, he is likely to be drafted on June 22.

2. MISSING REGIONALS: Unfortunately Pete Hughes and K-State did not advance to the NCAA Tournament, despite a top half finish in the Big 12 and eliminating both Kansas and Texas in the Big 12 Tournament in Arlington. The RPI and presence of multiple bad losses hurt their chances. However, the Kansas State head coach, as shown below, was unhappy about the committee’s decision and was rather scathing with his statement that was released on Tuesday.

3. NO. 6: A sixth commit of the 2024 cycle was added on Memorial Day by K-State when they landed Des Moines offensive lineman Kyle Rakers over the likes of Illinois, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Missouri. They were the overwhelming favorite for his services since a trip to Manhattan in December.

TWO QUESTIONS

1. CAMP SEASON: Speaking of football recruiting, we are on the verge of entering what should should be a significant month of June for Kansas State. Not only is there several official visits already scheduled, but camps begin on campus as well. That is always a tool that is used a great amount by Chris Klieman and the Wildcats to both evaluate potential targets in the current cycle but to set the table in the following one as well. Specifically, they’ve addressed the cornerback spot multiple times in that fashion.

2. DEADLINE: It is May 31, and that means it is the last day for those that declared for the NBA Draft to withdraw their name from consideration and return to school with their college eligibility still intact. Obviously, that is something that we expect from Nae’Qwan Tomlin, but a few potential K-State targets like Yuri Collins and Antonio Reeves are also notable names worth tracking.

K-State HC Jerome Tang stated a few weeks ago that Nae’Qwan Tomlin would declare for NBA Draft to gather feedback and maintain college eligibility. According to the early entrants list, he’s done that. https://t.co/6axrsqydSi

ONE K-STATE PREDICTION

1. MALIGI: Most would agree that Kansas State has future head coaches on the staff that was built by Jerome Tang. Because he was placed on the fast track for it, when labeled the associate head coach after successful previous stints at schools like Texas Tech and Texas, it would not be surprising if Ulric Maligi was the first. Fortunately for K-State, he will embark on a second season with the Wildcats as the lead assistant.
