2026 QB Rees Wise commits to Ole Miss: ‘It’s hard to fail there’

2026 Austin (Tex.) Westlake quarterback Rees Wise has committed to Ole Miss, he announced on Monday. The three-star prospect unofficially visited Oxford this weekend and committed to Lane Kiffin on the trip.
“I started off with a list of Top 10 schools, really had no clue about these schools, did some research on all of them and kind of got down to a Top 3 and Ole Miss was on it. Started to fall in love before I even got there,” Wise told On3. “First visit was absolutely amazing. Coach (Alex) Brown moved there while I was making the list and now he’s a coach there. It just became my dream school once I visited.”
Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis and analyst Joe Judge were a huge piece of the puzzle for Wise when it came to making his decision. He enjoyed spending his time with both coaches.
“I love picking his (Judge’s) brain, my dad loves hearing all the stories from the teams he used to play on,” Wise said. “Coaching under Bill Belichick, getting to work with Tom Brady. He’s been there for so long and has so much experience. It’s so nice to have that as a coach because he explains it so easily to you and you’re able to learn it very fast and in an advanced way. You got coach Weis as well. He is so smart. I love him. He’s a very good dude.”
Ole Miss wide receiver commit Jameson Powell was on the visit and the pair are already building a bond.
“It was awesome. He’s a really athletic dude,” he said. “He’s really chill. I really liked getting to talk to him. He’s a slot receiver and it was really fun. Excited to get to play with him later.”
Wise’s visit once again stood out to him.
“I absolutely loved it,” Wise said. “Same as last time. It was perfect. Visited in the fall so I didn’t get to see it at its full potential, but the spring, came up and the campus was amazing. I kept comparing it to the Masters, that’s how pretty it was. All the flowers and trees, stuff like that. Got to meet a lot more coaches than last time. Really enjoyed that. Staff was amazing. Got to talk to Kiffin a little bit. I just really loved the staff and everything about it. Really cool for me.”
Wise got an up close look at the Ole Miss quarterbacks and how they prepare. He spent time with starting quarterback Austin Simmons and Judge.
“I love the staff so much. I love the QB development there,” Wise said. “You have every opportunity there, everything to use, all the stuff. I got to do all the routines with them. I got up at 7 in the morning to be at the facilities at 7:15 to go do 1-on-1s with coach Judge and Austin Simmons. Do a little walk through of practice, go through all that. It’s hard to fail there when you’re a QB.”
What’s next for the Texas prospect? Wise is ready to focus on his senior season and capturing a state championship.
“I’m going to focus on myself so I don’t have to worry about other stuff now,” he said. “I’m committed to Ole Miss and not going on any more visits. I’m gonna take my team to state and we’re going to win this time so we don’t have to have that feeling again.
“I gotta be a really big leader this year. We’ve got a new team this year. Two or three move-ins. We lost a lot of our seniors last year, both offense and defense. I gotta make plays and take our offense all the way.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Wise is the No. 31 overall quarterback in the country and No. 72 prospect in Texas. Wise has official visits set to Arizona and Ole Miss for this summer.
