2026 LB Joshua Pittman commits to Virginia Tech

Suffolk (Va.) King’s Fork three-star linebacker Joshua Pittman has committed to Virginia Tech, he announced on Monday.

He chose the in-state Hokies over the likes of Michigan State, Syracuse, North Carolina, Duke and others.

Pittman is the No. 1,000 overall prospect and No. 75 LB in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 17 player in Virginia.

Head coach Brent Pry and the Hokies have landed their first in-state commitment of the cycle. Pittman made his way back to Blacksburg at the end of March for a spring visit. VT was his first Division I offer all the way back in September of 2023.

Pittman plays for one of the top high school football programs in Virginia. The King’s Fork Bulldogs won 11 games in 2024 and finished as the No. 6 team in the commonwealth, per the On3 Composite Rankings.

He becomes commitment No. 3 for the Hokies this cycle, flanking Bluffton (S.C.) four-star wide receiver Carnell Warren and Spartanburg (S.C.) kicker Will Love. Warren is a top-200 recruit and top-20 wideout in the On300.

Looking at Virginia Tech’s previous recruiting class

The 2025 cycle saw VT ink the nation’s No. 39 class, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. The class was buoyed by a pair of blue-chippers in Woodbridge (Va.) Freedom four-star running back Jeff Overton and Winston Salem (N.C.) Mount Tabor four-star WR Shamarius Peterkin.

Overton finished the cycle as the No. 26 RB overall. He was also one of 12 in-state recruits to sign with Pry and Co., alongside Chesapeake Oscar Smith three-star cornerback Jahmari DeLoatch, Ashburn Stone Bridge three-star defensive lineman Christian Evans, Woodberry Forest three-star safety Sheldon Robinson and Culpeper Eastern View three-star linebacker Brett Clatterbaugh.

Other top signees in the class include: Columbia (S.C.) Irmo three-star quarterback AJ Brand, Bridgewater (Va.) Turner Ashby three-star WR Micah Matthews, Virginia Beach Green Run three-star WR Jayden Anderson, Rocky Point (N.C.) Heide Trask three-star EDGE Sherrod Henderson and Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School three-star WR Cameron Sparks.

The class also ranked No. 8 in the ACC, ahead of the likes of Syracuse, North Carolina, Pitt, Cal and Stanford.
