2026 Illinois OL Rico Schrieber recaps Purdue visit

Purdue played host to six of its top 2026 targets on Friday. One was massive offensive lineman Rico Schrieber of Marist High in Chicago. The 6-7, 345-pound Schrieber already has myriad offers, including from the likes of Kansas, Florida, Iowa State, Miami (Fla.), Nebraska and Missouri, among others.
GoldandBlack.com caught up with Schrieber, who discussed his visit to West Lafayette and more.
Q: What do you like about Purdue?
A: I love the campus, the field, the locker room. But, most importantly, I like the coaching staff. All of them are really great people and really made me feel wanted.
Q: Describe yourself as an offensive lineman.
A: I think I am an athletic, aggressive lineman that can handle the first level and get up to the second and third levels.
Q: What did you like about the visit?
A: My favorite thing about the visit was how the coaching staff treated me. They treated me the best I’ve ever been treated and treated me like I am at home and very wanted there, especially Coach Odom. Talking to him, I felt like I knew him for years. He really made me feel wanted and at home.
Q: What are your strengths as an offensive lineman?
A: I think my strengths are my athleticism and strength. I excel in pass blocking, blocking in space, and run blocking because of it.
Q: Any family connection to Purdue?
A: I don’t have any family connections, but one of my coaches at Marist was Tim Stratton. He played football at Purdue and won the Mackey award.
Q: Any offensive line comparisons to you?
A: I think my comparison would be (New Orleans Saints) Trevor Penning because of my athleticism and attitude.
