2025 Woodford County WR Makhi Smith ‘Definitely’ Planning to Visit Kentucky This Season

Makhi Smith, a 2025 wide receiver, already took a visit to Kentucky in the spring and now he’s expected back during the season. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound wideout from Woodford County (Versailles, KY) told KSR+ that he will “definitely” be taking a visit for a game this year.
“I’ll definitely be visiting again this season,” Smith said. “I’ll be at a couple of home games actually since I’m from the city.”
Smith has remained in consistent contact with the coaching staff at Kentucky since receiving an offer from the program in February of 2022.
“They’re just trying to stay in contact with me, make me feel welcome, and make me feel wanted,” he said. “They’re making sure I’m staying up on everything from games to visits and all that type of stuff.”
Smith took a visit to Kentucky last season for a game, getting the full gameday experience. He also had the chance to talk to Kentucky associate head coach Vince Marrow and some of the other coaches.
“I took a pretty good visit there to Kentucky. I took a couple of pictures and did all that fun stuff,” he said. “Their offensive scheme seems fun. They throw the ball a lot. They have a good quarterback, so if I go there, I feel like I’ll get the ball in my hands.”
The hometown aspect clearly has a significant role in Smith’s recruitment as well as the program’s upward trajectory.
“It’s my hometown, so it feels like I’m at home,” he said. “Every year, they’re getting better and better. They’re doing something right over there.”
His Wider Recruitment
Makhi Smith already has several Power Five programs on his trail heading into his junior year, including Kentucky, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Cincinnati, and Coastal Carolina.
“It’s been amazing,” Smith said of the process. “I got my first offer my freshman year. I’ve been dealing with it for a minute. It’s been amazing. I love it.”
Smith has already taken visits to Auburn, Louisville, Cincinnati, and Kentucky. Next, he wants to get to West Virginia.
“I’m definitely getting up to West Virginia this year since I’ve got a buddy up there and I know a couple of coaches,” he said. “Louisville got a new coaching staff so I want to get up there and see how they are.”
When it comes to making a decision, Smith has his factors laid out.
“The school wanting me, wanting me to be a part of their program, and wanting me to help their program improve,” he said.
Makhi Smith’s Game
Class of 2025 wide receiver Makhi Smith of Woodford County (KY) is currently unranked by On3 but rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals.
He considers his ability to get up and catch the ball as his best attribute.
“I’m getting better with my routes, but definitely the go-ball and jumping up for it,” he said.
Moving forward, Smith wants to get faster and cut in his routes quicker. He said a “spread offense” would likely best fit his game at the college level.
What does Smith want to let the Kentucky audience know about him?
“I’m a great player, a great team player,” he said. “I love the fans and I’ll be ready to rock.”
