At 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, Southlake (Texas) Carroll tight end and rising prospect Jack VanDorselaer was easy to notice amongst a group of Power Five program coaches at the SMU Mega satellite camp in Dallas on Friday.
VanDorselaer is becoming a popular person in recruiting circles as his tape and potential continue to hit college staffers desks and tablets.
Not only does he thrive on the gridiron, he also runs the 200m for the Dragon track and field squad. He’s also an accomplished swimmer. It’s that sort of athleticism and agility that has coaches headed north of the Metroplex.
The 2025 On3 Industry Ranking four-star tight end holds 23 offers including Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, and Texas A&M. The Longhorns were early to the party after extending him an offer almost a year ago (June 12th) and he’s really clicking with tight end coach Jeff Banks.
“(Our relationship) is good, he just called me, I like talking with coach Banks,” VanDorselaer said. “He tells me what I can work on as a player and what he likes about my game. I’d like to go down some time this summer. It’s only four hours away and pretty close. I definitely want to go see them again. The connection is great and hope to be back this summer.”
What is it about Texas that really keeps your attention?
“I would say living in Texas since Day 1, born here, raised here, I feel like that’s a great aspect of it,” VanDorselaer said. “You know, going to Texas, feel like it’s in my blood. Going to school there would be fun. Quinn (Ewers) goes there. A lot of Southlake players have gone there. I feel like that connection would be good. The coaching staff, the whole culture aspect of their program I feel like gives off a good vibe about it.”
When asked about Ewers removing his mullet, VanDorselaer was candid.
“I feel like it was kind of his trademark,” VanDosrelaer said with a smile. “It definitely took it away, but it looks cleaner.”
This Spring, he’s hit the road to scope out any potential future schools of interest, starting in Knoxville and South Bend.
“I went to Tennessee a few months ago before Spring break,” VanDorselaer said. “I really liked it and have family up there. So I’ve always been a little attached to Tennessee. I went to Notre Dame, maybe a month ago, really liked it. The culture there was really cool. and I’ll be heading to USC next week and am excited to see the West Coast.”
Notre Dame stood out in some regards and VanDorselaer sees the Irish’s tight end tradition and Marcus Freeman as key points.
“I would say the culture around the team,” said VanDorselaer about what he likes at Notre Dame. “Just watching them come out of the tunnel for practice gave me goosebumps, then the music turned on and the lights came on, and you could hear the sound of their cleats. The gold helmets, I feel like it’s a very blue collar program. They put their heads down and just got to work. The coaching staff was very wholesome and authentic.”
VanDorselaer is ranked as the No. 284 overall prospect and No. 17 tight end in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He is the No. 49 prospect in Texas.
