2025 Quarterback Recruits: Stone Saunders a priority for Kentucky

2025 Quarterback Recruits: Stone Saunders a priority for Kentucky

As the season changes from spring to summer, the recruiting landscape has slightly shifted as Kentucky pursues a quarterback.

Upon Liam Coen’s return to Kentucky, his first priority on the high school recruiting trail was to find a quarterback of the future. Already behind in 2024, all attention focused in on pocket-passers in the 2025 class.

Three top targets emerged from UK Junior Day: Cutter Boley, Ryan Montgomery and Stone Saunders.

You’re probably already well aware that Boley will be rocking Kentucky blue in January as the headliner for the 2024 recruiting class. Early in his career the Top 100 prospect has looked the part, leading the state in passing in his first year at LCA and impressing Tim Couch in the process.

“I saw every snap the kid took last year and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a quarterback at that age that I’ve been more impressed with,” Couch told Tom Leach. “You kind of just go down the list and he checks every box.”

Just because Kentucky secured a commitment from one four-star quarterback does not mean Liam Coen’s work is finished.

Kentucky Still Needs a 2025 Quarterback

Kentucky cannot afford to stay idle. This summer programs will invite top quarterbacks to campus for in-person evaluations. If all goes according to plan, there’s an early commitment to build recruiting momentum in 2025. Two of the top 15 passers in the class are already committed, Austin Simmons to Florida and Kevin Sperry to Oklahoma.

One quarterback is still firmly on UK’s radar. Stone Saunders informed KSR he will attend a camp in Lexington to work out with Kentucky’s Liam Coen.

A top 25 quarterback in the class, the Harrisburg, PA native has picked up quite a few impressive offers this spring. Texas A&M, Georgia, Michigan and Nebraska are now in the mix. Fortunately, Kentucky has an inside connection. The Wildcats’ offensive coordinator is a close family friend with Saunders’ father.

Since Ryan Montgomery visited Kentucky this spring, the quarterback from Findlay, OH has seemingly visited every other school in the country. The younger brother of an Ohio State offensive tackle, Montgomery appears to be enjoying the process. As more new schools join the fold, Kentucky’s interest has waned.

There are a few other quarterbacks that will emerge throughout the summer. We may not learn until the day before or the day of that a new player is showing off his arm at a one-day camp for Liam Coen.
