2025 QB recaps meeting with Nick Sheridan: “It went amazing.”
Alabama’s Nick Sheridan and multiple support staff members have been in communication with Duncanville (Tx.) quarterback Keelon Russell for several months. The SMU commitment has stated that contact with Bama has been “amazing” so far, and that they talk on a weekly basis.
Not surprisingly, one of the first stops that Sheridan made during the spring evaluation period was to Duncanville High School to watch Russell throw the ball for the first time in person.
Russell talked about their time together, message from Sheridan, and more.
“For the first meeting, it went amazing,” Russell told BamaOnLine. “When he walked into the facility, I already knew it was going to be amazing. I wasn’t nervous at all, but there was a lot of pressure. But I had a great day.”
Checking in as the No. 8 quarterback in this class, Russell passed for 3,267 yards with 35 touchdowns and only three interceptions during his junior season.
Sheridan shared with Russell what Alabama’s offer process is like under head coach Kalen DeBoer.
“The most important thing was the talk at the end,” Russell said. “The main thing he was talking about was how he was going to develop me. He said it’s like a little process [with the offer]. A little waiting, then he was going to hit me back in a few days or a week once the head man approves that they want me as their 2025 quarterback.”

During their conversation, Sheridan talked with Russell about how it’s “a big family” in Tuscaloosa and that they can develop him into a national championship starting quarterback, as they did with Michael Penix.
Alabama’s offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach also spoke with Russell about the tangibles, and intangibles, he saw from him on Tuesday.
“He said I can sling the ball very well,” Russell said. “He said that was the most important part. Said with my character, I have good leadership. I keep my team uplifted, and I feel like that’s one of the keys to being recruited by a really good school like them.
“I had some throws that were incomplete, like two or three. There were some throws that weren’t great, and he talked about how I bounced back. How I didn’t let it affect me. He talked about my run game, and that I’m an amazing quarterback who can kill it with my legs and arms. I feel like that’s what Alabama is looking for.”
A key development from this meeting is that Russell is now working with Sheridan and the staff to take a visit to The Capstone.
“I know for sure that we’re right now setting up a date to go down there,” Russell said. “Maybe an official.”
So, would Alabama be one of Russell’s top contenders if the program dipped into his recruitment?
“Yes sir, for sure,” Russell replied.
BOL also had an opportunity to catch up with Russell ahead of Sheridan’s visit to his school this week. Russell stated that he remembers watching Alabama games with his dad as a kid, and would be elated to earn an offer from the Tide.
“It would be a big option. It probably would flip the tables for me big time,” Russell previously told BOL. “They have been a dream school for me since I was a little kid. Seeing all of those guys succeed at the highest level on the biggest stages. It’s been a dream school, for sure. It would flip the recruitment a lot for me.”
