2025 On3 four-star Jontae Gilbert talks Texas offer

Texas continues to look across the country for its top targets. 2025 On3 four-star safety Jontae Gilbert of Atlanta (Ga) Douglass was next up after he picked up an offer from UT this week.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound On3 Industry Ranking No. 3 safety holds 23 offers, including Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, LSU, Miami, USC, and Tennessee. He was formerly committed to Ohio State, but backed out of that pledge on July 29th.

Since reopening his recruitment, the Peach State product has seen Georgia, Georgia Tech, and South Carolina, with the Gamecocks gaining favor of late. But he’s hoping to learn more about the Longhorns and what Steve Sarkisian is building in Austin.

“I know that they’re some of the best defensive backs in the league like Earl Thomas, Caden Sterns ,and Deshon Elliott,” Gilbert told Inside Texas. “I’m connecting with coach (Blake) Gideon.” 

A decision timeline is still unknown, but South Carolina is making some hay in this recruitment.

“I really like Coach (Torrian) Gray a lot,” Gilbert told Chad Simmons of On3 in the spring. “He has coached in the NFL, he has sent guys to the league and he knows how to coach defensive backs. I saw him coach at practice and I really liked how he was with his players.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average of rankings from all four major recruiting services, Gilbert is the No. 38-rated prospect in the class for the 2025 cycle, No. 3-rated at safety, and No. 7-rated prospect in Georgia.

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $96K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
