2025 offensive tackle Will Black talks Notre Dame offer, Lineman’s Challenge Camp
Class of 2025 offensive tackle Will Black entered Notre Dame’s Lineman’s Challenge Camp on Saturday believing he had to do well at the camp in order to earn an offer before he left South Bend. He did, and he did.
Black, who has been a Notre Dame fan since he started playing football two years ago, took an hour-long tour of campus after the camp. The tour ended in Irish coach Marcus Freeman’s office, where the incoming junior from Wallingford (Conn.) Choate Rosemary Hall officially received the offer.
“It was really fun talking to (Freeman),” Black told Blue & Gold. “I think he’s a really good guy, and a good family guy. … He talked to my mom a lot about more than football, about academics, and he wanted to get to know my family and our story.”
Black, standing at 6-foot-7, 295 pounds with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, is On3’s No. 26 offensive tackle in the 2025 class. He now has 13 offers, mostly on the east coast but also Michigan, Nebraska and Texas A&M.
The offer after a successful camp didn’t surprise Black, who said Notre Dame was the first school to recruit him. That recruitment began Nov. 19, when Black attended Notre Dame’s 44-0 demolition of Boston College for a game-day visit.
Later, Black’s high school held a showcase, and Irish defensive coordinator Al Golden was there.
“(Golden) said he liked what I was doing,” Black said. “So then I came down to camp, and Coach Joe Rudolph, O-line coach, had been talking to my head coach quite a lot. So yeah, there’s definitely a lot of connection there.”
At the Lineman’s Challenge Camp, Black had to adjust to the pace, which he said was faster than he was used to. Still, he thought he did well, and Notre Dame agreed.
“There was a lot of good competition,” Black said. “The coaches did a really good job coaching up everyone, and I definitely learned a lot. It was overall a really good camp.”
In addition to being an Irish football fan – his favorite players are Michael Mayer and Joe Alt — Black likes Notre Dame’s campus as well. He was impressed with the football facilities, and he feels like the school itself would be a good fit for him. Black likes that Notre Dame is a smaller school, about 8,500 students.
“That’s pretty ideal,” Black said. “You get to know everyone, and it’s pretty good competition to get into the school, so I like that part about it.”
Coming up, Black plans on attending a Michigan camp and a Yale camp, both in June. He doesn’t have any other visits planned, for now.
On3 currently projects Notre Dame as the favorite to land Black.
