2025 four-star offensive lineman Carde Smith talks Auburn decommitment and remaining official visits

2025 four-star offensive lineman Carde Smith talks Auburn decommitment and remaining official visits

During the spring period Williamson (Ala.) High School’s Carde Smith committed to Auburn and did so over several other Power 5 offers. But last month the 2025 offensive tackle and On3 four-star prospect had a change of heart and decommitted from Auburn.

Smith noted that he made that decision after discussing his recruiting process with family members and his coaches. He is rated as the nation’s No. 18 offensive tackle and the state’s No. 11 prospect by On3 rankings.

“I’ve been talking to my mom and my coaches about everything,” Smith remarked. “We looked at a lot of different things and in the end, we felt like that was the best decision for me to make.”

Also in June, Smith took in a pair of official visits along with several unofficial visits during the spring period. Looking towards the fall, Smith plans to take more official visits and has three programs in mind for those visits.

“So far I’ve taken official visits to Auburn and Southern Cal,” recalled the 6-foot-6 and 300-pound Smith. “Then I plan to take some more during the season. I will probably go visit Colorado, Florida State and Mississippi State during the season.”

With Mississippi State, Smith unofficially visited the Bulldogs during the spring months. He also holds a close relationship with offensive line coach Cody Kennedy.

“I’ve still been talking to Mississippi State and it’s going pretty good,” Smith said. “I still have a good connection with them. I talked to Coach Kennedy earlier today and he said they would love to have me there.”

Of course, Smith’s offseason has also included preparations for his final prep campaign at Williamson High School. And those preparations center around being versatile enough to play at both offensive tackle positions.

“This summer and offseason has been pretty good,” noted Smith. “Just working on getting faster and stronger and working on my technique. We still don’t know which tackle spot I will play and I played right tackle last season. So I am just preparing to play either right or left tackle.”

At the next level, Smith doesn’t plan to make another decision any time soon. First and foremost, he wants to take in the rest of his official visits and then go from there. At the end of the day, Smith wants to find the best “fit” for his abilities on and off the field.

“Most likely I will make my final decision after I finish up all of my official visits,” Smith mentioned. “I want to see which coach can develop me the most and which one I have the best connection with. But the main thing is who I fit in with the best. I don’t have my list of favorites or order of favorites set yet.”
