2025 EDGE Zion Lawson’s Georgia interest draws ‘tears of joy’

Atlanta (Ga.) Manard Jackson 2025 edge Zion Lawson‘s emotions have been and will be all over the place on Saturday.

Lawson will make his way to Athens for an unofficial visit to Georgia as the defending national champions host UT-Martin on Saturday evening. It will be his first time on Georgia’s campus.

Lawson doesn’t have an offer from any programs as of now. Lawson has played both tight end and defensive end for Manard Jackson in Atlanta for the last two seasons.

He camped at Alabama State this summer but there is little college interest expressed on his Twitter page at the moment. That could change soon. Since Lawson took part in the Great Atlanta Bash on Saturday, he has also been invited to a Georgia State game.

Georgia’s interest comes as a payoff for the fast-rising edge, who stands 6-foot-4, 230 pounds.

Lawson found out about his invite to Athens from 2025 teammate Ricky Dorn, a wide receiver who will also visit Georgia for the first time this weekend. Dorn holds multiple Power Five offers of his own already. Before long he was in contact with Georgia outside linebacker coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe.

“My feelings about this opportunity are unexplainable,” Lawson said. “I don’t know where to begin on how thankful I am for this opportunity it’s amazing.”

Zion Lawson overcome with emotion

Lawson has been working toward grabbing the attention of college football programs around the country for years.

Hearing that Georgia was interested was a bit of validation. Lawson immediately thought of his late mother.

“Since my mom passed last year I’ve just been grinding and grinding,” Lawson said.

Lawson is honored by the opportunity. All of the emotions hit him at once when the invitation was extended to him.

“Knowing all that I’ve been through these past years, and now I just so happened to get invited (to a Georgia game) just did something to me,” Lawson said. “I broke into tears of joy.”
