2025 EDGE Mykah Newton sets official visit to Michigan State, breaks down recruitment
Michigan State has hosted numerous transfer prospects during the month of May. Once June hits, however, the staff’s focus will again shift to high school recruits.
Michigan State will host a number of high school recruits the weekend of May 31. One of those prospects is 2025 Newberry (Fla.) High School EDGE Mykah Newton. Newton on Saturday announced his plans to take an official visit to East Lansing that weekend.
Michigan State offered Newton back in February, shortly after secondary coach Blue Adams visited him at his high school in Florida. Spartan director of defensive personnel Austin D’Armond and defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa have remained in contact with Newton throughout his recruiting process.
“Coach Blue Adams came to my school and talked to me and told me he liked my film and he was going to show it to the d-line coach,” Newton said. “About a week later, coach Legi called me and offered me.”
Newton has also garnered interest from a handful of other Power Four schools. He has set official visits to North Carolina State, Central Florida and UConn, in addition to his plans to visit Michigan State.
“I really want to see each campus and the area of the school and see what the vibes are there and if I fit into the school,” Newton said. “I’m going to try and see how the players at the schools go about their workouts and how serious they are, just stuff you can’t see as much on unofficial visits.”
A few things have already stuck out to Newton about the schools that he’s considering, including Michigan State.
“I like the way Michigan State plans on playing defense and how personal they are with me,” Newton said. “We talked more about me as a person than me as a football player when I was there. We talked about what kind of man they can make me and how I can contribute to the team and in the classroom at Michigan State.
“As for other schools, really just liking the different ways they want to use me on the field and stuff. NC State wants me as a DE and the others want me as a DT, so different things like that. NC State also developed a guy from my high school so there’s a little connection there.”
Newton took an unofficial visit to Michigan State on April 18-20. The visit wrapped up with the Spartans’ Spring Showcase. Newton plans to commit sometime in late August or early September.
Newton is currently unranked in the On3 Industry Rankings.
