2025 DL Antonio Coleman is living out his dream as an Alabama commit

Before Antonio Coleman stepped foot on Alabama’s campus on Sept. 9, he did not know that it would result in him committing to the Crimson Tide.

Coleman says it was the pre-game energy ahead of their matchup with Texas and his familiarity with the school that led to him rewarding Bama with his commitment. The product of Saraland (Ala.) High School told BOL that the coaching staff was “fired up” after he delivered the good news to them.

“Things have been going great. Everything with my commitment has been going great,” Coleman told BamaOnLine after Friday’s 70-20 win over Foley. “It means a lot. Since I was a kid, I’ve always wanted to go to Alabama. That had been my dream. To be living out my dream is great.”

In his commitment breakdown with BOL last month, Coleman stated that future position coach Freddie Roach is his favorite staff member in Tuscaloosa.

The No. 23 defensive lineman in the 2025 cycle has been in regular contact with Roach since his commitment.

“I’m speaking with Coach Freddie Roach the most,” Coleman said. “Coach Roach is a great guy. The communication is going great. I feel like they really want me there.

“He’s a coach who knows when it’s time to work and when it’s time to build a bond with his players,” Coleman added. “He’s not going to be serious 24/7 but, whenever it’s time, you’ve got to learn how to flip the switch. That’s what I like about him: Builds a bond with his players but, at the same time, you still have to do your job.”

Coleman envisions Roach being able to maximize his skill set when he gets to Tuscaloosa in 2025.

“I trust him 100 percent to get me where I want to be,” Coleman said of Roach. “He coached my coach —Coach [Lukador] Lanier — back in college [at South Alabama]. I definitely have a lot of trust in him to unlock my greatest potential.”

The four-star prospect was unable to attend Alabama’s contest versus Ole Miss because of high school homecoming. He intends on returning to Bryant-Denny Stadium for the Arkansas and Tennessee games next month. His goal is to be back at Bama for their final four home games of the season.

Antonio Coleman has seen improvements with Alabama over the past few weeks

Alabama’s football team has found their groove over the past couple of weeks. After struggling at USF and in the first half of the Ole Miss game, the Tide have outscored their opponents 58-20 in the past six quarters.

Coleman offered his assessment of Bama after their 4-1 start to the season.

“I feel like they’re doing OK, but we definitely have to get some more pass rush on the quarterback,” Coleman said. “As the season has gone by, I feel like they’re catching up. I definitely feel like they’re going to get better as the season goes.”

With back-to-back seasons without a national championship, there is a lot of anticipation for Alabama’s 2023, 2024, and 2025 recruiting classes.

This 2025 group, in particular, is intriguing as Bama is currently No. 1 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

“I feel like as far as being the best class to come out of high school, we definitely have some pressure,” Coleman said. “We have a lot of recruits in the Class of 2025. I definitely feel like we have to fill a big gap when we get to Alabama. We’re the No. 1 class, so we definitely have to fill in the gap and be who we are when we get to Alabama.”

Of course, the longest-tenured pledge in the Tide’s 2025 class is high school teammate and Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Ryan Williams.

“We talk all the time about Alabama and us committing,” Coleman said of Williams. “We’ve been with each other since park ball league. We’re just looking forward to a ring and a winning season when we get there to change everything. Be the best people, be the best class for Alabama.”

Coleman noted that the likes of Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, and Texas remain in contact with him. The Longhorns could get him on campus this season as fellow teammate and UT quarterback commit K.J. Lacey is pushing for Coleman to visit.

Worth noting is that multiple Saraland teammates visited Auburn this past weekend, but Coleman opted not to go with them on Saturday.
