2025 DE Tylon Lee talks recent school visit from Miami’s Joe Salave’a: “They just want me to keep grinding and do what I do”
From 1996-1999, center Ty Wise played a key role for the Hurricanes. Now the former Miami player may be helping his alma mater yet again as the ‘Canes are looking to become a potential contender to land fast-rising Milton (Fla.) Pace 2025 EDGE Tylon Lee. Yes, Wise is one of his coaches.
“Miami likes to dominate, compete, and get after it, and I know that just by watching (Wise),” Lee told CaneSport. “Coming from there, just how he is and how he coaches, that’s why I’m the player I am because he’s shown me and taught me all the techniques. He used to play offensive line but teaches defense so he knows all the little things from an offensive perspective.”
Wise, who is a defensive coach at Pace High, has long informed the Hurricanes about his standout player. And Miami has now taken notice as defensive line coach Joe Salave’a recently made the trip upstate to see the No. 444 overall prospect in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
“Since my freshman year, my coach has kept them updated on me since he played there,” Lee said. “He kept on sending them my film and everything, and they finally got the chance to reach out to me, and they got to me and started showing me love. They just want me to keep grinding and do what I do.”
While the visit from Salave’a came as a bit of a surprise to the 6-foot-5, 210-pounder, the two instantly hit it off.
“We clicked even though it was the first time we connected,” Lee said. “We started talking about just more than football, like what I want to be outside of football, and that’s what I like about a coach. He was not just worried about the talent but off the field as well.”
Lee has been a force this season, registering 37 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks through five games, according to MaxPreps.
“I’m a dog,” Lee said. “All gas, no brakes. I’m not just saying that; it shows on the film and off the field. I love to compete, and I put in the work for it.”
Thus far, the Florida native has over 20 offers on the table from the likes of Tennessee, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Louisville, Florida, and Miami. A home feel, strong relationships and education are three of Lee’s top priorities when looking into a potential program.
“A place that feels at home,” Lee said. “I want a good relationship with the coaches, players, and academics. I have all A’s right now, and I want to stay on top of my books and be something besides a football player. I want to be a mechanical engineer.”
Lee’s overall thoughts of Miami and the direction the program is headed under head coach Mario Cristobal?
“They’re going up,” he said. “I can tell they’re working hard every day, and coach Cristobal is doing a very good job. It’s outstanding how he’s had a big outcome this year. They’re trying to shock the world, and I believe they have a good chance of going far.”
CaneSport’s take
As of late, Lee has garnered a lot of attention from a handful of Power Five programs, and the Hurricanes have taken notice as well. Yes, having a former Miami alum coaching Lee may help the ‘Canes, but it will take much more than that to potentially land the No. 32 ranked EDGE rusher in the 2025 class.
