2025 commit Kamario Taylor excited about future of Mississippi State’s offense

This offseason 2025 Mississippi State commit and On3 four-star quarterback Kamario Taylor has been impressive and has experienced a steady upward trend in the On3 rankings. Earlier this month, the Noxubee County High School standout captured MVP honors at the Under Armour combine in Nashville, Tenn., and was among the top performers at that event per On3.

Also this spring, Taylor has been checking out his future offense in Starkville via State spring practice sessions under head coach Jeff Lebby. Taylor has made multiple trips to campus this spring to observe the Bulldogs in action.

“It was good to go over there and watch them practice,” Taylor recalled. “All of it was great and I love the offense. I like the way they were scoring points with ease. I watched the quarterbacks, of course, and I followed them around all day. I liked what the freshman – Michael Van Buren – was doing. He was looking good for a freshman.”

Of course, Lebby has brought major changes to State’s offseason this offseason. And that is something that puts a smile on Taylor’s face each time he watches Lebby’s system in person.

“It’s a big difference,” Taylor noted of State’s offense. “They throw the ball around a lot more. They just get the ball to their playmakers in space and let them go to work. They get the ball to their guys in the right places and let them make plays.”

Taylor committed to Mississippi State last fall and did so with State’s previous coaching staff. But it hasn’t taken him long to build a close connection with Lebby and he noted of that relationnship.

“Coach Lebby has been great to us,” added the 6-foot-4 and 205-pound Taylor, who passed for 3,594 yards as a junior and accounted for 58 touchdowns. “He said I am one of the top players in the nation and he wants me to lead our class. He wants us to get all of the great players on the same team. So it was good and I was really around all of the coaches at practice. They all came up to me and we had good talks.”

With his visits to campus, Taylor has also put in some recruiting work for the Bulldogs. During a couple of those spring practice visits, Taylor has been around 2025 receiver and On3 five-star prospect Caleb Cunningham of Choctaw County High School.

“There’s been some other guys there but I was mainly around Caleb a lot,” mentioned Taylor. “He said he was going to take his time and he knows I would love for him to come to State and it would be great for the program. We can do some special things there together.”

Even though spring ball is winding down at Mississippi State, Taylor still wants to continue his trips to campus. He wants to gain as much knowledge of Lebby’s offense as possible in order to be prepared when he arrives on campus in January of 2025 as an early enrollee.

“I will be back over there a lot more this summer and I had fun at their spring game, too,” Taylor said. “I feel comfortable around everyone there. Plus, I enjoy watching that offense and I want to keep learning more about it.”
