2025 CB Cobey Sellers talks Texas offer, early recruitment
Alvin (Texas) Shadow Creek junior cornerback Cobey Sellers makes plays on both sides of the ball. And that has the attention of college programs across the nation for the On3 four-star prospect.
The 6-foot-0, 165-pound defensive back won a TAPPS state championship last season as quarterback for Fort Bend Christian, where he scored four touchdowns in the title game. His move to Shadow Creek bolsters an already talented roster. The step up in competition is something the talented prospect notices and why he’s working hard this offseason.
“I want to increase my speed, strength, and defensive back technique,” Sellers told Inside Texas. “I plan to visit some schools that have offered me, and of course, UT is one of them.”
Sellers holds six early offers from Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas Tech, UTSA, and Houston. Three programs have really started building the relationship.
“Baylor, OU, and UH are the schools that have been in contact with me the most,” Sellers said. “I do have some other recruiters (SEC/PAC12) contacting me, saying they will offer me soon.”
With the Texas offer, Sellers nabbed a verbal invitation from one of his favorite schools.
“I’m excited about getting to know the UT coaches better and plan on doing an unofficial visit soon,” said Sellers. “I’ve talked with Coach (Blake) Gideon the most during my recruitment and can’t wait to meet him, Coach (Terry) Joseph, and Coach Sark in person. I’m sure I will be at Texas a few times between now and the football season.”
For the former Fort Bend Christian state champ, his family is a big part of his process. That’s one of the reasons he moved to Shadow Creek.
“My parents are excited about the offer from UT and all of the other schools,” Sellers explained. “My dad and mom are both involved in my recruitment and contact with recruiters. Some recruiters ask to speak specifically with my dad when they call me. My parents both push me in school, track, and football. Wherever I go, they will be there for every home game and many of my away games.“
The move and transfer was also a matter of proximity.
“Shadow Creek is walking distance from my house, so it was easier for my parents to get me to school,” said Sellers. “FBCA is like 30 minutes from my crib.”
