2024 Texas QB commit Trey Owens at home in Austin

When Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair quarterback Trey Owens was offered by Texas, he was shocked. When he committed to the Longhorns’ class of 2024, he was in love. And after his official trip to Austin over the weekend, he found his home.

What is it about Texas that really has recruits attention and why the 6-foot-4, 195-pound signal-caller sees it as home?

“The coaches really,” said Owens. “There is nothing fake about this staff. You go to other schools and they put on a show, but it doesn’t always feel genuine. With the Texas coaches and staff, it’s real honesty. They are super chill. That’s why so many recruits are leaning Texas after this weekend.”

Owens hung with the players and recruits, and connected with fellow Texas target Parker Livingstone, the Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy four-star pass-catcher.

After being such a frequent guest on the Forty Acres, what did Owens want to learn about the program after this weekend?

“Really wanted to learn more about the city,” Owens said. “We ventured out and had a great time. There’s just so much to do around Austin. The recruits love that.”

Owens was extremely productive in 2022. The Cy-Fair High signal-caller went from starting three games as a sophomore and throwing for 478 yards with five touchdowns, to over 3,000 yards and 34 TDs as a junior.

Owens is the No. 458 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 24 quarterback and the No. 77 recruit in the state of Texas.
