2024 OL Gemyel Allen on Georgia: ‘Everything looked gorgeous’
Lawrenceville (Ga.) Mountain View 2024 offensive lineman Gemyel Allen is seeing things with back-to-back national champions Georgia beginning to pick up.
Allen made his way to Athens last weekend for his first visit to Georgia. The Bulldogs impressed.
“I honestly had a great time,” Allen said.
Allen had the chance to tour Georgia’s facilities as well as take some photos in the Georgia uniform.
“All the new facilities and everything looked gorgeous,” Allen said. “The huge weight room, the team room, they have the trophies from the championship years and all that. It looks awesome. I got to go into the team room and a dining hall for football only. It was awesome.”
He also got some time with the coaches and got some insight into what the Bulldogs envision him playing at the next level. Allen has played mostly tackle at the high school level, but Georgia is eyeing him as a center. He will transition to the center position full-time in 2023.
Allen doesn’t have an offer from the Bulldogs yet. He holds nearly 20 offers already. He has a public top five of Duke, NC State, Georgia Tech, Virginia and Vanderbilt.
The Bulldogs’ interest feels real for Allen. He admits he’d have to consider should Georgia extend an offer at some point. The opportunity would be a big one for Allen. The Bulldogs have already invited Allen back to campus. He’ll likely be in Athens for the annual G-Day Game on April 15. The Bulldogs also want Allen back in the summer for camp.
“I feel like if Georgia was to offer me, they’d jump very high on my list,” Allen said. “I think they have some interest. They want me to come back for camp and the spring game.”
Gemyel Allen talks contenders
Allen has his eyes on where things go with other interested programs like Georgia. He’s also moving forward with his recruitment. He has five schools he’s working to learn and build relationships with.
Allen hopes to be committed by the start of the 2023 season. For Allen, academics are key and each of the programs in the running for him checks the academic box as well as the football box.
“I don’t want to just look at football,” Allen said. “A lot of programs on my list have good football programs but also have a good education. I’m trying to secure something good for the next 40 years of my life. I’m looking at the bigger picture. They still have really good programs. I want to go somewhere and win for four years.”
Allen has an official visit for Virginia set for June 2. He will schedule more in the coming weeks. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Georgia Tech as Allen’s leader at the moment. The Yellow Jackets have a 251% chance of landing Allen according to RPM.
