2024 New York CB Samuel Madu breaks down Purdue visit

2024 New York CB Samuel Madu breaks down Purdue visit

There was no shortage of top recruits on campus last weekend. And one of those was Samuel Madu. The 2024 cornerback from Archbishop Stepinac in the Bronx, N.Y., came away impressed.

“I was actually blown away,” he said. “I’d say probably one of the best places I’ve been to so far. Best people. They all came with great energy from Coach (Sam) Carter to Coach (Kevin) Kane. It sounds like if I came to Purdue, my transition would be smooth.”

The 6-0, 170-pound Madu has offers from Penn State, Michigan State, Missouri and Minnesota, among others. Purdue also has offered.

The appeal to Purdue is enhanced by the presence of two New York-area natives: S Sanoussi Kane and OLB Khordae Sydnor. All three work with About U Outreach, an organization in their area which helps bridge the opportunity gap amongst student-athletes through physical and academic prep in addition to community outreach.

“For Sanoussi and Khordae to find Purdue, somewhere they can call home, is good,” said Madu. “They aren’t pressuring me to commit, but they are showing me what’s available.”

Head coach Ryan Walters‘ proclivity for working with secondary players also intrigues Madu.

“Watching practice, you can see that he’s spent a lot of time with the DBs,” said Madu. “He coaches them up, gives them tips. Him being on the younger side of coaching helps him connect with the players. He understands where we’re coming from.”

Madu is a long, lanky corner with an array of skills.

“I’m extremely aggressive,” said Madu, who has been to Pitt, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Penn State this spring. “Twitchy, quick. I can come down and make any type of tackle, any big hit. So, you can put me at safety, corner wherever you need me on the field. I’m going to make the play. I’m also very good in coverage. Can cover pretty much anyone.”
