2024 Indiana ATH Jo’Ziah Edmond breaks down Purdue visit

2024 Indiana ATH Jo’Ziah Edmond breaks down Purdue visit

Defensive back? Receiver? What position will Jo’Ziah Edmond play in college?

“Right now, they’re recruiting me as an athlete,” he said. “Honestly, my preference is DB. But, wherever a team needs me, I’m always available to play that position.”

The 6-1, 185-pound Edmond visited Purdue for practice on Tuesday. It’s a place he’s been several times in recent years. He was playing at Warren Central High in Indianapolis but in December moved to Nappanee, Ind., where he’ll play at NorthWood High for his final season.

“Actually, I came up here for better academics,” he said. “I have more family here, too. I didn’t really have that much family down in Indianapolis. We have several several businesses in Michigan City, which is like 20 minutes from here.”

Edmond has an offer from Purdue, along with Baylor, Iowa State, Ole Miss and a raft of MAC schools. Purdue is the lone school he’s visited this spring, but Edmond has plans to get to Baylor, Michigan and maybe Ohio State.

“I have a very high football IQ,” he said. “I am very alert when the ball’s in the air. I’m very athletic, agile. Very stable hips and things like that. I have leadership skills when it comes to football. Knowing how to read the field, getting my guys where they need to be, talking on the field. Just being very vocal.”

While in West Lafayette earlier this week, Edmond spent time with several coaches.

“I really loved talking with Coach (Ryan) Walters, Coach (Sam) Carter and Coach (Grant) O’Brien,” said Edmond. “And getting to know more about Purdue’s academics was valuable. Purdue isn’t just a football school, it also is a high academic school. That opened my eyes. They set a high standard. Love the guys there. They treat me like a little brother. So, honestly, Purdue is a good school to be at.”

When could Edmond pick a school?

“Honestly, I don’t know right now because my recruiting is wide open,” he said.
“I actually have a lot more coaches trying to communicate with me. I don’t know when I’ll be committing.”

Franklin Central cornerback Hudauri Hines–the first commitment in Purdue’s Class of 2024–is in Edmond’s ear.

“He’s my man,” said Edmond. “We’ve known each other since fifth grade. We were supposed to play together at Warren Central, but he went to Franklin Central.”
