2024 CB Jameer Grimsley talks Alabama official visit, spends quality time with Nick Saban

2024 CB Jameer Grimsley talks Alabama official visit, spends quality time with Nick Saban

Over the weekend, Alabama played host to double digit prospects for official visits. Most of these recruits have already been on Bama’s campus, with one of those being Tampa (Fla.) Catholic target Jameer Grimsley.

“It was really good. I enjoyed it,” Grimsley told BamaOnLine after his first Alabama visit since April 15. “I liked hanging out with Coach Saban. When we went to his house for breakfast, that was fun. Also, hanging out with the players.”

The highlight of Grimsley’s return to Tuscaloosa was joining the other official visitors on their trip to Saban’s house and eating breakfast there on Sunday.

While having dinner with other recruits the night before, Grimsley had a chance to sit to the left of Saban during their meal.

“It meant a lot,” Grimsley said. “It meant that I feel they want me to come to their school and they think I’m a good fit for their program. Sitting next to Saban, I’m not sure he does that for everyone. Just getting that time to spend with him, one of the greatest coaches of all time… learning stuff from him. I don’t know how to describe it.”

Throughout the weekend, what was Saban’s message to Grimsley?

“Come here,” Grimsley replied. “No one is going to develop you like Alabama does. We’ll make sure you’re good on and off the field. Told me to stay disciplined. You’ll succeed at Alabama and succeed at life. Just be consistent.”

Following his visit in mid-April, Grimsley put Alabama in his unofficial top three. On the heels of this most recent trip, Grimsley says they continue to hold that spot in his recruitment.

“They’re in the top three,” Grimsley said. “The visit just happened, and I’ve got to go over some things to compare the other schools. But they’re top three. That’s not up for debate.”

Grimsley detailed the main reasons why Alabama remains a program of high interest for him.

“Bama is Bama,” Grimsley said. “The history behind it, you cannot not consider Bama, especially with everything they’ve been doing the past 10-20 years. They’ve just been putting dudes in the league as first-round picks… those dudes, they all want to go to the NFL. That’s what their plan is. You’re surrounded by like-minded individuals.”

Five-star Alabama commit recruited Grimsley over the weekend

Jameer Grimsley’s player-host for the weekend was true freshman cornerback Jahlil Hurley. Grimsley, the No. 11 cornerback in the 2024 On300, opened up about Hurley and the rest of the players’ message to him.

“They all like that Saban is in the room with them all the time,” Grimsley said. “They have that relationship with coach because he’s always working with the DBs. Also said that Alabama is a business, but that you’ll enjoy your time there.”

Another cornerback in town for an official visit was five-star Alabama commit Jaylen Mbakwe, who personally recruited Grimsley.

“He was telling me to come home,” Grimsley said of what Mbakwe told him.

Next weekend, Grimsley will venture up to Michigan for an official visit. He’s already logged official visits to Alabama, Florida State, North Carolina, and Penn State. Those schools, along with Florida, Oklahoma, and South Carolina, make up his top eight.

Grimsley intends on making his college decision by Aug. 18.
