2024 4-Star PG Jerry Easter Prepared for Nike EYBL Alongside Kentucky’s Justin Edwards

2024 4-Star PG Jerry Easter Prepared for Nike EYBL Alongside Kentucky’s Justin Edwards

Jerry Easter, a 2024 four-star guard out of Ohio, found his rhythm at the latest Nike EYBL session in Memphis, largely in part to his training alongside a couple of Kentucky Wildcats.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound point guard from Emmanuel Christian Academy (Toledo, OH) and the All Ohio Red AAU Program, told KSR+ that he recently had a week-long workout in Los Angeles with Arkansas’ Nick Smith, Duke’s Dereck Lively, and Kentucky’s Justin Edwards and Chris Livingston

“I was competing with them and working out with them,” Easter said. “That really got me ready for this session because I was just in the lab in LA every day in the morning and afternoon. That gave me a boost heading into this session. I was ready to play.”

As for incoming Kentucky freshman Justin Edwards, Easter said “everything” stood out about his game.

“He can shoot, finish, catch at the rim, and everything,” he said. “He’s got defense too as well. That’s my guy.”

Where Kentucky Falls in Jerry Easter’s Recruitment

Jerry Easter is hearing regularly from the likes of UCLA, Ohio State, Michigan State, Memphis, Arizona State, South Carolina, Syracuse, and Texas A&M, among others. However, Kentucky is still in the mix.

“[Kentucky] reached out two sessions ago in Phoenix,” Easter said. “I think they talked to my coach. They haven’t offered me yet, but they reached out. They said they were interested.”

Easter is especially impressed with Kentucky’s NBA pedigree.

“Mostly every year an NBA player gets drafted from Kentucky,” he said. “They just get them ready for the draft, really for the NBA to compete against the best players in the best league in the world. That’s what I like about it.”

As for a decision, Easter said he wants to play with other elite prospects in the country.

“I’m just looking for a school that best fits me, plus other top players that go there as well,” he said. “I could play with anybody. I like playing with the best guys. Whatever is the best fit for me in college is where I’m going to go.”

His Performance in Memphis

Four-star guard Jerry Easter of Emmanuel Christian (OH) Academy and the All Ohio Red AAU Program is the nation’s No. 43 overall prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 ranks Easter as the No. 30 player overall and the No. 4 point guard and the No. 2 overall best player in Ohio.

Through 16 games this summer, Easter is averaging 17.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 27.6 minutes per game. He is No. 17 in the EYBL in scoring this summer.

“Our teammates are just competing, but this last game we had, I don’t know,” Easter said after a 102-59 loss to Team WhyNot on Sunday. “I don’t know if our team was rusty or not. They got a good lead on us, got some shots up. This session has been good so far.”

As for his game, Easter said his greatest strengths are “getting to the rim, passing, being a leader on the floor, and making moves.”

“I like to get to my spots on the court,” he said.

Moving forward, Easter is focusing on his shooting.

“I need to knock it down when I’m open,” he said. “I can’t be missing wide-open shots. Mostly my shooting, my post work, and being more vocal on the floor.”
